[ Everyone but Wheatley ; dictated ]
I was wondering if anyone would guide me through the process of making tea.
If it makes any difference, black or green tea especially.
[ Wheatley ]
[ A few hours later, GLaDOS would be making said tea. The room was already ready; although she hadn't really changed it from its cold and clinical feel, it was something that they were both used to, anyway. Aperture. There was a small table set up, though, with two chairs and little tea saucers and plates, and a little radio in the middle that was playing classical music.
GLaDOS herself would be dressed primarily in blue, in a nice button-down fitting blouse with sleeves that reached her elbows and a knee-length black pencil skirt. Of course, she was wearing some nice shoes to match, no heels of course (even if she did think about them, she likely would have trouble walking in them). She didn't want to wish up the tea already made, instead opting to keep herself busy before the moron got there.
She was a little apprehensive, really. This set-up was ridiculous. She knew she was going to these lengths because he had been so considerate over the past week, where she had only been as nice as she could be, but still. Being kind didn't really come naturally after so many years of being a homicidal AI. It was a foreign concept, even if the friendship itself made her inexplicably happy. If only the tiny bit of data (well, self, now that she was human) that was Caroline could explain these dumb things. Instead of just making her feel them.
She let out a small, nervous sigh before writing in the filter and speaking. Hopefully, he had his journal on him. ]
Come up to my room as soon as you're free.
[ Now, to play the waiting game. She took the two tea cups that she had wished for (with blue designs on them, naturally) and finished the job, hoping he would come soon. Otherwise, the tea would get cold. ]

[He sighs, taking his chin off her head and looking away while furrowing his brow. He clears his throat. ]
"Oh, never mind. You know, it sounded a lot better in my head. Now that I say it it sounds... well it sounds stupid, for one. And it doesn't make sense. I'll uh... just... um, nevermind. We can pretend I didn't say that."
no subject
The worst part was, is that it sort of made sense to GLaDOS. It was like a code only known to them, to remind each other that they did remember that one-week truce. So when he turns away, she's not sure what to say. ]
It... [ She doesn't want to say it she doesn't want to say it shedoesn'twanttosayit ] It makes sense. It's like a reminder that we'll always remember this week.
[ As much as it would be easier to just try and drown the memory somehow, being human seemed to come with quite the inconvenient memory bank. Memories were triggered by the most random of things, and GLaDOS kind of hated it. She preferred being able to sort through them methodically and delete the ones that impaired her from functioning properly. This chaos wasn't welcome.
But she had to make do somehow. If she couldn't sort, then she would remember anyway. And if she remembered, why not give this week a symbol to remember it by? ]

"Uh... right. Yeah. that's exactly what... I was trying to say, actually. I thought you didn't know. Of course-- of course you would. "
[3 and a half hours remaining. It stuck in the back of his mind. 3 and a half hours. That was loads of time. He kept trying to tell himself that, but as the numbers got lower, it became less so.
He put one of his arms over her shoulders, and pulled her into a half hug. He made speaking into her hair a habit too.]
"Look at us. Haha, being a bit dramatic aren't we? Just a bit..."
no subject
Instead, he had seemed understanding. Which she wasn't sure if she preferred. She did, but at the same time, his smile made her realize that he really was going to be affected by this just as bad as she was. She shifted in his arm to return the hug, finally letting go of his hand.
'Look at us' indeed. GLaDOS wasn't sure what was worse. The fact that she agreed with him, or the fact that she had never felt worse. ]
Maybe. [ she would say quietly. ] You're much more tolerable as a friend. It might actually be something you're good at.
no subject
"You think so?"
[When he said that, he sounded incredibly curious. There was still a subtly sad element about his voice, but it had almost disappeared. Also, try to pull away from him GLaDOS, if you dare. He's not letting you go just yet.]
"Well... you are too. And this! This was a surprise. I thought that... well, I thought that... since we hadn't spoken for the day, I thought that you wanted to end the truce early. Cut it off. be-because I was doing a bad job.
I uh...I didn't want to bother you about it, didn't want to be a menace... a pest. How-however you want to put it.
Had no idea you were... learning how to make tea. All of that. Really went the extra mile."
no subject
You seriously thought that? [ She said, before realizing. That would definitely be something that she would do, if she wasn't so conflicted. She would have cut the deal, without a thought for the morality of things. ] ... no, never mind. Don't answer that.
[ But she was a little touched that he seemed to like her arrangement so much. ] I'm glad you liked it.
I haven't been much of a friend this week. Compared to you. [ He had taken her out to lots of places, paid for expenses, pretty much held up almost all conversation, and was the most 'friendly'.
She felt like she hadn't really learned how to be a friend. And even if she had done something right, today was the last day. ]
FUN FACT: WE TANGOED SO I CAN USE THIS LINE OK
"Sure you have! Take's two to tango you know. Quite literally. Haha... see what I did there? Did you see it?
But honestly... you-- you were great. Out of everyone in this castle, had the most fun with you. Funny really. Still can't figure out how it worked out that way."
SEE WHAT YOU DID THAR.
But she's a bit surprised he would say that. She knew that he had likely socialized much more than she did. So... she was a bit pleased.
Maybe she was a good friend. ]
Hm. I'll admit, I'm surprised. Don't you have other friends?
[ She at least had none, so admitting that this had been the best time she had spent with someone felt a bit more justified, in her opinion. But then again, it was still nice to hear. ]
AWW YEEE
[Hahaha... ha. And the other half the castle doesn't like him. He fumbles with her hair, which is for the last time. He didn't think about it that way though. The time lost him again.]
"Comparing you to loads of people. None of them quite... uh, like you."
YEEE AWW.
[ The way he played with her hair was nice, though. She suddenly thought about the time. What time was it? She almost didn't want to look. But eventually, she'd turn her head just slightly to take a glance.
An hour and a half left.
She would turn back towards him, taking a slight breath. It was going by so fast. Too fast. ]
I'm starting to think there's something seriously wrong with me.
[ It was so quiet, maybe he couldn't even hear her. But she had a feeling that if she said it louder, her voice would quaver.
She didn't want that. ]
no subject
"Wrong with you? Uh... wh-what do you mean by that?"
[He was looking too superficially. She looked fine...? He tilted his head, and moved a little closer to her to hear what she was saying.]
"...?"
no subject
Back then. At the facility. I never would have thought for a second that I would have agreed to a truce like this. I would have never wanted to remember a truce like this.
But now... it's completely different. This is the most fun I've had at this stupid castle. Would you believe that? More fun than Science. I was built for Science. Science is what I'm supposed to like the most. Why is it that as soon as human emotions make it into the equation, everything gets so confusing?
[ It feels like she just can't stop talking. As soon as she had started, it just all started to tumble out. ]
Believe me, I've had a great week. Eating cake. Dancing. Watching that movie with the dumb ending. Everything has been great. But that's the problem. I don't understand it.
[ It's so hard to explain. How is she supposed to explain? ]
no subject
"I uh..."
[He's speaking very softly. He's close to her, so he could whisper.]
"I don't know. Not the most intelligent answer in the world... but... I don't understand it either. Emotions. So I...uh, W-We're in the same boat then."
[He looks up at the clock, spotting the hour and a half mark as well. That quickly? It wasn't a lot of time, and when he sees it, he takes a deep breath. He's trying to suppress his emotions, trying to maintain that usual goofy smile that made him look like an idiot all the time.]
"Does it make you feel better that I'm just... just as miserable as you love?"
[He tightens his hug. He actually felt a little wronged. Like the castle betrayed him in a sense, and he just didn't know why.]
no subject
It's... it's fine. I don't think I was expecting an answer. [ She wasn't sure if anyone could answer this question.
But his question makes her snort. ] To be honest, I'm not sure. But it's nice to know I'm not the only one who's apparently malfunctioning.
[ Grateful for being held tighter, she returned the action, letting out a small, sad sigh. ]
no subject
[He hears her sigh. Alright Wheatley, it's time to make her smile. He really liked it when she smiled. It made him feel better for some reason, and he was on a mission to see her smile one more time.]
"C'mon! Smiiiiiiiiiile! Won't let you go till you do, love!"
[He speaks into her hair, muffled, taking his other arm and wrapping it comically around her. She'd have a hard time being able to be sad, or even speaking, because he's hugging her so close, he was mushing her face against his chest. He rocked her gently back and forth.]
no subject
Gah! Wh-what- how is suffocating supposed to make me happy, exactly? [ Her voice was really muffled by his sweater, though, so it might be hard to hear. She felt that sudden rush of emotion again, shock to sheer confusion this time. ] Fine, fine! I'll smile. Just -- let me breathe--
[ She had her priorities straight. She wasn't going to get herself killed over a lack of smiling. ]
no subject
"What?"
[Roll in the confusion.]
"I wasn't... I wasn't suffocating you!"
no subject
There.
no subject
"There we go."
[He'd crawl off the bed. He was beginning to get antsy. A little over an hour. He began pacing, back and forth.]<.small>
"S-so when this truce ends... do I just leave? Or do I leave before... or should I-- oh! Should I-- maybe I should leave now. Spare us the uh...experience of counting down..."
[His voice cracks at the last one. You can tell he really doesn't want to go.]
no subject
Don't go. [ She pauses. ]
... We might as well stay together until it ends. We've spent so much time together already. [ Please don't go, Wheatley. She doesn't want it to end yet. Not yet. ]
no subject
He stares at her for a moment.
He doesn't say anything.
He looks... so... confused.
But like some sort of kid he walks to her, stopping at the edge of the bed and reaching for her again. He doesn't want to leave her. He wasn't going to. If GLaDOS told him to leave he probably would've honestly sat in front of her door until morning.
He was a mess. But he was happy? That's right, he was a damn happy mess.]
"..."
no subject
GLaDOS felt relief wash over her when he comes back, happy and arms outstretched. She can't help but smile; honestly, he was so silly.
So she stretched her arms forward to grab his hands in hers, pulling herself off of the bed and then wrapping her arms around him in another heartfelt hug. ]
no subject
When he was close to her, he felt a peace. Which was ironic, because a week before now he couldn't of dreamed of it without being terrified. Now he was terrified to leave. The thought of him saying goodbye made him ill.]
Hey...
...
Can you... sing that song you sung before?
no subject
She didn't want him to go, either. Even if it would be easier on her emotions to simply let him go and forget about it, right?
But when he asks for her to sing, she would be a little bewildered. Of course, she shook that off and gave him a nod.
GLaDOS began to sing again, softly, the same song. She would still be holding him close, her thumbs idly stroking his back as she sang. ]
no subject
He isn't looking at the clock again. He's never looking at the clock.]
H-hey! We're on a whole planet... aren't we? Time zones! time zones... we can go somewhere else. could be far, but it'll be earlier-- we could have more time. You know there are still loads of places that I want to- go to. Loads. With you. Which is the point. Obviously. That- we could do that.
[He's being stupid. It makes no difference about the timezone. It's still a week. /facepalm.]
