test chamber 06 ;
[ Everyone but Wheatley ; dictated ]
I was wondering if anyone would guide me through the process of making tea.
If it makes any difference, black or green tea especially.
[ Wheatley ]
[ A few hours later, GLaDOS would be making said tea. The room was already ready; although she hadn't really changed it from its cold and clinical feel, it was something that they were both used to, anyway. Aperture. There was a small table set up, though, with two chairs and little tea saucers and plates, and a little radio in the middle that was playing classical music.
GLaDOS herself would be dressed primarily in blue, in a nice button-down fitting blouse with sleeves that reached her elbows and a knee-length black pencil skirt. Of course, she was wearing some nice shoes to match, no heels of course (even if she did think about them, she likely would have trouble walking in them). She didn't want to wish up the tea already made, instead opting to keep herself busy before the moron got there.
She was a little apprehensive, really. This set-up was ridiculous. She knew she was going to these lengths because he had been so considerate over the past week, where she had only been as nice as she could be, but still. Being kind didn't really come naturally after so many years of being a homicidal AI. It was a foreign concept, even if the friendship itself made her inexplicably happy. If only the tiny bit of data (well, self, now that she was human) that was Caroline could explain these dumb things. Instead of just making her feel them.
She let out a small, nervous sigh before writing in the filter and speaking. Hopefully, he had his journal on him. ]
Come up to my room as soon as you're free.
[ Now, to play the waiting game. She took the two tea cups that she had wished for (with blue designs on them, naturally) and finished the job, hoping he would come soon. Otherwise, the tea would get cold. ]

He isn't looking at the clock again. He's never looking at the clock.]
H-hey! We're on a whole planet... aren't we? Time zones! time zones... we can go somewhere else. could be far, but it'll be earlier-- we could have more time. You know there are still loads of places that I want to- go to. Loads. With you. Which is the point. Obviously. That- we could do that.
[He's being stupid. It makes no difference about the timezone. It's still a week. /facepalm.]
no subject
She had never really gone outside otherwise. ]
A week is still a week. [ Her voice trembles, but she swallows it down. ] Even if we extended this truce... It would only be worse in the end. We still have to kill each other... and if we just keep being friends, it'll be harder to stop.
[ She knows this. If she felt so conflicted after a week, how would she feel after two? Three? A month?
Even if she was in a human body, GLaDOS had to remind herself of her true life in Aperture. Her life of testing. Devoted to science. ]
no subject
b-but I thought... it's a week but... oh! You know, but if you think about it like this, the time-
[He stops speaking, and sighs, nodding. When he speaks, he sounds defeated.]
Alright, alright. You're right. We'll leave it alone then.
[He thought about it carefully. She's still a cold monster. The same woman who threw him into space and probably didn't think twice about it. Her being human didn't change that and she probably wasn't even sorry. He had to remember all of that. How terrible it was to be floating hundreds of years in space... cold. He didn't feel the cold, but it was COLD. He knew that.
Stop feeling so damn terrible about leaving her then.
She didn't feel anything when she left you.]
How much time then.
[It was a question, but it didn't sound like one. ]

The statement about the time had her looking up momentarily, trying to hold in her displeasure. Less than an hour. ]
Fifty minutes. [ she would reply softly, before resting her cheek against his chest, humming a little. She could hear his heart beating. ]
no subject
It doesn't work that way.
So he wished for the next best thing.
He wished that the castle could give him another chance sometime in the future to make it up to her. He didn't know if it worked like that either, but he didn't particularly care. Everything he was doing was too impulsive. More so than usual. He held her closer.]
"F-fift-..."
[He couldn't say it. He choked at the last syllable and closed his eyes. His voice was shaking considerably.]
"You're killing me love... you're killing me."
no subject
D- ... Don't say that. [ She felt like there was a golf ball in her throat. It was hard to talk without taking a particularly deep breath.
Was it always like this? When humans lost friends? It didn't make any sense. Clearly, friends weren't a good thing then. If they made people malfunction.
But then why did he make her so happy during that week? ]
We still have... fifty minutes. [ She tried to console him, before taking a particularly deep breath and muttering: ] Ugh, I'm leaking. [ It burnt her eyes. It wasn't extremely pleasant, given the fact that she already felt emotionally exhausted despite being on an emotional roller coaster. ]
no subject
[He laughed too, and wiped his eyes, looking at his hands. They were wet, and even then, he couldn't stop his tears from flowing. He furrowed his brow in confusion. What is this?]
"B-because I am too..! Weird. I don't... think this is...supposed to...um supposed to happen."
[He lets go of her, and crouches to her height, putting his hands on her face and wiping her tears. His hands... they sort of linger, and he begins to laugh. He closes his eyes, and presses his forehead against hers. ]
Okay... right! fifty... d-do you want to go for a walk...?
no subject
... That sounds good. [ she would reply softly, raising her own hands to gently smooth his hair back again. She liked doing that. ] Where do you want to go?
no subject
[He eventually pulled back, and took her hand. He really didn't know where he wanted to go. But he suddenly had no desire to be inside. The walls felt too confining.]
Shouldn't be any birds this late at night... if that's what's bothering you, love.
no subject
She let him take her hand, twining her fingers through his. ]
That's good to know. [ A little relieved smile. ] Even those demons have to rest sometimes, I guess.
So, let's go, then. [ This was a rare time where she would let him lead, not feeling up to it herself. ]
no subject
Good. You know, I used to go on walks all the time. It helps. I always wondered why, you know... seeing as all it is is travelling around. Going one place to another. Nothing special.
[His hands are shaking. He needs to calm down.]
There are no clocks outside love. Nothing but the big one. we won't have to count down or anything like that. It ruins the mood. Instead... we just wait till it comes. And that'll be it.
no subject
Hm. His rambles were enough to soothe her, but she noticed his hand in hers still trembling, and gave it a little squeeze. The cool night air felt rather cold on her cheeks, where there was still tear residue, and she realized she probably looked like a mess. Dancing for so long and then crying did that to people. ]
That'll be it. [ she echoes with a small nod. ] I'll agree that looking at the clock is depressing. And I might as well spend some more time outside, considering I likely won't be doing that much again.
[ She didn't hate it outside. It was just... so different from the indoors. Right now, it was nice, though. Probably because she was holding onto someone familiar.
Kind of funny, how he was probably the person she knew the best here. If only because of their history. And then, she didn't really know anything about him, did she. ]
no subject
[He looked at her. He knows she said it before, but it still seems a little... crazy. Staying inside. He knew that they didn't leave a+Aperture very much because they couldn't before. But they had so much freedom now.
When they got outside, it was slightly cooler. Despite being summer, it had a pleasant breeze to it, and it'd muss up both of their hair. ]
You can always go out by yourself too, love.
no subject
[ She shook her head.
It was just something else that was unfamiliar. That made her feel out of her element. She had felt that way this entire week, but it was coupled with a pleasant euphoria that had cheered her up too much to care.
She liked feeling at ease. ]
I could... but I'm not sure I want to. [ she admitted softly, finally looking at him and meeting his eyes. ] It's unfamiliar. But only pleasant when you're around.
no subject
[Welp. When they got to the grass, he suddenly let go of her and sat down on the grass. This was a considerably good place to just lay down and... do nothing.]
no subject
Maybe I will.
[ When he lets go and sits down, she sits down next to him. Don't mind her though, as soon as he's going to lie down, she's going to lie down too, resting her head on his chest and staring up at the stars. ]
The sky is rather nice at night.
no subject
[He brushes at her hair with his hand, and presses his lips against the top of her head again, just staring up at the stars. She'd barely be able to understand his muffled voice, but he was sure to make it just clear enough.]
Stars are nice though. I always liked them. But there are tons of them, so I guess they really aren't that special.
no subject
Just as quickly as it came, she tried to dispel the thought from her mind. No, no, no.
She liked how he made those little gestures, though. It was comforting. ]
I suppose not, but they're still nice to look at. Much better than looking at a single star.
no subject
[He's playing with your hair again. For the last time. That's right.]
Do you want to hear how I always thought of it? It's... it's actually a bit silly.
no subject
How did you think about it? [ she would ask, slightly curious. She also decided to humor him. Since this was never happening again. ]
no subject
[He's trying hard to keep his hands still as he brushes his fingers through her hair.]
But a bunch of them are nicer to watch as a whole! Imagine how boring it'd be if there was only one star. It'd be a really...awful thing. But you don't really care about any of them. Something about that makes them... a little less desirable if you ask me. Even though they're all so nice.
Dumb, I know. Spent a while talking to stars.
no subject
She thinks of two things. Firstly, a certain mute lunatic. If she wasn't the only test subject during her time, she would have been less impressing. Less bright-looking. Less important to try and keep her alive regardless of enjoying watching humans die. Because she had to test.
The second thing she thinks of is her life at the castle. She's conversed with a few people, but nothing on Wheatley's level. Nothing quite compared to this week they had spent together. She had never come closer to a true bond. It was much more frightening than the first thought, but still, on some level, GLaDOS understood.
Unless she was reading too much into it. She hoped she wasn't. ]
It... it makes sense. [ She won't go further into it just in case, though. ]
And you talked to stars?
no subject
[And that was all he answered.]
Can I ask you something?
no subject
What is it?
no subject
But you told me that you'd want to be back at the lab, love. Just wondering if you still felt that way.
