[okay, sure, maybe it's late. maybe most people are tuckered out from playing on the lake or fighting with their siblings or the sheer mental effort of figuring out who the heck all these people are.

but that doesn't mean that some people are still up ... and around ...

like Ray, of House Touchdown, for example. he's found himself a dock to sit on, and pulled his harmonica out of his suit jacket. there's a cooler of beer sitting on the boards beside him, and he cracks one open to wet his whistle before he raises the well-worn harp to his mouth and starts to play.

a little night music, for you all, on a Monday evening. enjoy it or tell him to shut the hell up because you're trying to sleep, whatever works]

[Yo my fellow brother. Soon you'll find yourself with redheaded brother, sitting down on the other side of the dock and simply listening. Because like heck is he going into that cabin before it gets a lot cooler out]

[Ray nods toward the cooler, not skipping a beat. help yourself, he'll be done with his slow jam in a moment here]

[And he's opening up the cooler to grab a beer. Opening up, he'll take a good swig of it]

[okay, he's got that last bit of blues out of his system. Ray lowers the harp and stares out over the lake, listening to the last note as it wavers and echoes across the water. mmmmm. damn but that's good for the soul.

once the last of it fades, he turns to smile a little at Reno, picking up his own beer and raising it in a toast]

S'not so bad out here once y' settle into it.

[He'll raise it in a toast, giving a nod] It's not.

Think our side's got it pretty easy overall.

[bro please]. Dodecahedron. It's a shape with twelve sides.... Which isn't enough, but its the biggest one I know a name for.

I remember that. Can't believe he forgot he was on the second story...

Yeah - [he snickers] I think some kid even drew pot leaves on his cast.

[Maybe it was all that napping Spike did earlier, but he's awake when he hears Ray out by the dock. He heads on over, and before he even says hey, he's stolen one of his beers and has found a comfortable place to enjoy it. Raising it as a greeting to let him know it's just his brother.

This is also the first time he's given a second look at the dock. Maybe he can go fishing later... (And now Spike's distracted. How typical.)]

[it was hot as hell out earlier, he won't blame you for saps. he finishes his tune, then looks back over his shoulder and drawls]. Hey, Spike.

[He smiles; it's been a while since they hung out like this.]

You didn't have to stop.

Okay.

[and he'll just ... start in on something new. because they're that comfortable with each other, and he's got no problem foregoing conversation for jamming, if that's what Spike wants.]

[He won't complain. He just sits down and drinks, maybe fishing around for a cigarette while he enjoys following whatever thought is on his mind. Perfectly relaxed.]

[he'll jam on that harp just as long as Spike'll let him and the mood moves him - which is probably for a good while. finally, he slips it back into his pocket and glances over at him.

[Spike's eyes were closed by the time he finishes, but he cracks one open when he notices the music stopped.]

The encore is over already?

I guess I could keep goin'. I'm outta songs, though. You'd have to gimme a request.

[You mean he wasn't making then up as he went? Spike shakes his head, even if he wouldn't object to falling asleep to it, and stretches. Slowly standing back up.]

Thanks. It helped pass the trip, that's fer sure. Well, when it wasn' my turn to drive.

[Nepeta's never tired at night, so the sound of music draws her out from where they've been staying. Having spent most of the day drawing on her tablet PC, it's about time she came out to socialize! Somewhat. With her exchange program host, anyway.

She plops down next to him and just listens.]

[he finishes off his song, then glances over at her and smiles, laid back as ever. anyone else bringing an exchange student to a shindig this big might worry about overwhelming them, but he knows she can handle herself. chill guardian is chill]

Hey, Nepeta. How ya holdin' up?

[She's sitting cross-legged, and she leans back on her hands.]

I'm okaaaay. You didn't tell me your family was this big. [And loud. And insane.]

Are you kiddin' me? [he quirks an eyebrow, with the ghost of a grin] I don't even know half these people.

[Bwuh???]

Huh? But this is a family reunion, isn't it? Aren't you supposed to know who your family is?

Oh, I know who my immediate family is, the people I see the most: like Travis an' Spike an' Reno. But most've these people I wouldn't know from Adam. I know there are folks here I've never seen before in my life.
