[he clears his throat, then in that thick Italian accent:]

Hello... my name is Ezio Auditore, and I seek an inventor or mechanic or... esperto of some kind. I have obtained an object of great importance, but I do not know what it does, or what it is capable of.

But I need someone I can trust, someone with the right... sensitivities for this object.

-----Historians and Religious people, barring Lucrezia Borgia -----

[Still more thick Italian accent:]

I seek information about Pope Alexander VI.

[And, with that done, you can find him in the kitchen, contemplating the microwave.]

It wasn't necessary for me to learn that stuff.

[He knew about historical battles, sure. Because when you train your child supersoldiers you want them to learn from the past, too.]

I suppose not. Those things can be left to scholars.

Yeah, I was made to fight, everything else was just a distraction.

[Was that a bit of regret, there?]

[Pause.]

Does it bother you that you were not given a choice?

It did. But, I've been at this too long to care any more.

And that seems sadder still, to be driven to apathy from a lack of choice.

I can see your point. I wouldn't bother feeling sorry for me, though. I do what I have to do.

I suppose we all do what we have to do, in those situations.

I'm not complaining much. I did my bit to help out humanity in my time.

It is discouraging to believe that humanity could not rise above conflict and strife entirely in a thousand years.

Well, apart from the Rebels causing a ruckus on the Outer Colonies, the UNSC has kept the peace. Until the Covenant came.

So it still was not lasting.

Nope. I've heard we've got some peace in my future, though. We managed to drive back the Covenant, apparently.

That's good, at least.

Pity I'm not going to see it.

No? Why is that?

Well, I was just about to be zapped into a void when this place snatched me.

[What. He'll pretend he knows what that means, other than "probably death".]

And there is no chance of survival?

Nope. I'll get winked into non-existance the second I get back, I'd imagine.

[He doesn't seem too bothered about this]

That seems like such a terrible fate.

I do what I have to.

As do most, but few of us know our fates.

The chances are one in a trillion that something will save me. Nothing's for certain, but it's too close to certain to not be.

You are a brave man, then, to have come to terms with your fate.
