Conan Edogawa (Shinichi Kudo) ([personal profile] modernholmes) wrote in [community profile] paradisa2012-08-08 08:11 pm

[Dictated]

[Conan had been thinking a lot recently.  It wasn't just that week he had spent believing himself to be nothing more than an ordinary child, or the humiliation of displaying such childish behavior.  His situation had forced him to abandon any attempt at dignity long ago.

He had been Conan Edogawa for two years now.  For more than a year he had been trapped in this castle, with no way to pursue his investigations into the Organization and no hope of finding a cure.  How long had it been since he had been able to tell the truth about his name and age?   He still had not given up on reclaiming his life, but he was beginning to fear that he would forget what it was to be Shinichi Kudo.  And more, that Shinichi Kudo would be forgotten.

How many years could a person vanish from their own life and still have any hope of returning to it?

Something need to change.   He'd already had it proven that caution would not advance his goal here.  To keep on moving, some risks were necessary.

Fact.  The Organization was present in his own world.  So long as he was in this world, no progress could be made.  Fact.  Haibara was not here to research an antidote to the poison.  As the creator she had the best chance.  But in her absence there was a slim possibility that these scientists from other worlds might be able to theorize a solution.

A slim, high risk possibility.  But any chance was better than none.  There was only the question of how to minimize the risk.

He needed to think.  And to avert any suspicions as he thought.  Conan reaches for his journal with a tentative plan in mind.]

I wanted to apologize to everyone about what happened during the family thing.    I think I was really rude to some people!

Mr. Edgeworth?  Thank you for the chessboard.  I still have it.  Do you want to play a game sometime?

Ah, if anyone needs me this afternoon I think I'm going to be playing outside.  It looks like the day is really nice.

I wonder if I could talk to you about something.

[After that he's headed outside with a soccerball under his arm.  He always did his best thinking while kicking a ball against a wall.]

Conan, I'd like to make a couple of things clear.

For one, you are welcome. I am rather glad you appreciate it, and I'd be delighted to join you in a game or two.

...Ah, and before I forget, do call me, 'Miles'.

That's better.

Well, you know you are quite welcome here any day...and I must admit, it was actually rather nice having a little brother.

Of course. What's wrong?

To try and find an antidote? Of course.

[And a pause here]

Would you be willing for a colleague of mine to help, too? My friend from Atlantis is here in the castle, Dr. Jennifer Keller.

Not to me...thankfully.

...Though, you do tend to be rather cheeky in general, I'm sure it wasn't anything out of the ordinary.

[If he had known Conan's thoughts, he'd amusedly remark that age-wise, he'd be a 'little brother' anyway.]

I've been a doctor in another galaxy for three years and, from what people tell me, have been able to do quite a few... unbelievable things. I'm sure I could give it a shot.

...And the risk is part of the challenge.

[There's another pause here]

I'd trust Dr. Keller with my life, should it ever come to that. She's a brilliant doctor. I chose her for the shortlist to go on the Atlantis Expedition myself.

I'll make sure she knows before elaborating, don't worry.

I'll need blood samples and any documentation on this virus if I'm to make a retrovirus.

Untraceable in a standard autopsy...

[Carson muses that to himself.]

It seems they didn't count on Ancient technology if my medical scanner could pick it up. It has to alter the genes somehow. All I'd need to do is isolate whatever causes it, and see if I can make a retrovirus or gene therapy to reverse it.

[A sigh]

This would be a lot simpler if we were on Atlantis.

I meant no harm by that statement.

No more rude than I would expect of a very clever child.

And just as modest as he is obedient. [ :p ]

[Yes, you were supposed to.]

Both of them will keep you out of trouble.
