[Phoebe sounds BESIDE herself with excitement] I have an amazing announcement to make. [pause for dramatic effect] Peter proposed! We're getting married!

We haven't even started thinking about a date yet but I couldn't wait to tell everyone.

[Phoebe may have been married once before but that wedding had been... well... a little creepy once she actually stopped to think about it. So she was determined to actually have as close to her dream wedding as possible. The fact that her sisters couldn't be there left a hole in her heart but she knew that they would want her to be happy. Besides - there's always the chance that they'd come back in time for the wedding, wouldn't that be something?

It's such a beautiful day and she's in too good a mood to spend it inside so she's sitting outside in a lawn chair sipping iced tea and leafing through a bridal magazine she found in the library. (Besides, her new ring just looks so pretty in the sunlight)]

You know, there's been so much negative talk lately. Even if things aren't going so well thinking positively is always the first step to turning it all around. Everyone should think of one good thing that's going on in their lives right now. Even if it's small there's always at least one.

Well, you deserve it: both of you. I gotta admit, I haven't talked to Peter all that much, myself, but he sounds like a really nice guy.

He is. He really is. He saved my life, actually.

Oh, wow. So it's just like something out of a movie. [he sounds appropriately touched by the thought]

So, what happened?

You remember when we were all on the pirate ships? We were on the one that was attacked by the Navy. Peter and I were rushing around with a few others fighting the officers and trying to keep everyone safe. One of them had this giant robotic wolf that was trying to destroy the mast. I was able to tangle its feet and slow it down... of course then it decided to start shooting at me. Peter dove in the way, he took a bullet for me.

Oh, wow. That's ... That was really brave of him. I'll have to thank him for it next time I see him.... all this time and I didn't know he saved my best friend's life.... Man.

Hey, how do you figure they kept the robot wolf from rusting, with all that salt water? [always the engineer]

I don't know, actually. I suppose I could ask Natsuki the next time I see her.

If you do, lemme know - that kind of thing could have all sorts of practical applications! Especially on the stuff we bring out past the Dead Zone.

[She chuckles]

How have you been, Ray? How did you fare with that family reunion thing?

I've been pretty good! I ... actually didn't really know many of the people in my family before then, except for Spike. And Nepeta, who - well, she ended up being like an exchange student, I guess? That's a decent way to describe it. How about you?

I can't say I've met Spike or Nepeta but I'm glad it went well for you. [she laughs] Well Peter and I were still together, thankfully. Willow and Hermione were my sisters and I was a mother of two.

Spike keeps to himself a lot, so I'm not too surprised. He's quiet, but he's a good guy. He's the one I was trying to help when those lobster mutants got me. ... And Nepeta, she's just a kid, but she's a real sweetheart... She's one of the trolls, if you've ever met them. Like Aradia and Vriska.

Oh! I remember him, though I didn't know his name when we saved you guys. [she pauses] trolls? No... I haven't. Though I think it's safe to assume they're nothing like trolls from my world if you're friends with them.

Yeah, no, they're all really nice. Well ... Vriska is once you get to know her, anyway. They've got grey skin, and black hair, and horns with stripes kinda like candy corn.

[she laughs] Yeah nothing like trolls where I'm from. I'd like to meet them sometime.

Sure thing! I'll have to introduce you. I bet you'd really like Aradia, she's really interested in magic...

I'd love that! And I always love spreading a little magic around, too. [she chuckles] I actually had to turn someone into a toad before he believed me that magic was real.

You ... HA! You really turned someone into a -- oh, Phoebe, that's -

[he laughs]

[She joins his laughter. What? It's infectious!]

Of course I did. Of course then he criticized my rhyming skills. It took a little while before we became friends after that one.

Rhyming skills.....? [hmmmm]

Your ex-toad wouldn't happen to be named Once-ler, would'ee?

He would be, yes. I take it you know him?

Yeah, we met at Camp Half-Blood, we were in the Hephaestus cabin together. We invented a bunch of neat stuff, me and him and Billy ...

[his voice drops a little at that. Billy. his science buddy. sniffle]

We've only spoken over the journals so far. He wouldn't believe me when I told him magic was real sooo... [She magicked him into a toad]

Ha, nice. I ... shouldn't laugh, it's probably not really fun to be a toad at all, but. Well, it's kind of classic, too. ... I didn't know your spells worked over distances like that, that's handy.

As long as you have a clear goal in mind and are specific enough in your wording it can work.

[Having been on the receiving end of such a long distance spell before...]

So you could protect someone, if you knew they were in trouble, from hearing it over the journal? And not have to actually go to them? ... Phoebe, that's great!
