I could wait for January to come around to do this, but I'd probably forget by then. Nothing wrong with md-August resolutions, unless there is. And to that I say whatever.

I've started learning a few things here and there, but none of them have been mastered. Cooking, guitar playing, riding horses... so! By the end of the year, I, Stephanie Brown, will be good at one of these things. I'm either going to know how to make a meal people will actually want on a regular basis, play "Wonderwall" like all the cool kids at Gotham U, or graduate from a fat pony to a real horse.

Doable? I think so.

Anyone feel like joining me in this mastering of a hobby thing? Figure we've got time to kill here. Even if it's just knitting or something.

What kind of cooking are you thinking of learning?
alias_savant: ([neal] well well well)

So you're looking to learn more of an actual meal? Like entree with sides -- that sort of thing.

[oh hey it's fake!aunt] I wouldn't mind learning how to cook.
alias_savant: ([neal] listening)

If there's a specific dish you're looking to learn, I'm willing to teach. I've been cooking for myself for a long time.

[laughs]

I am a bachelor, but I also enjoy upsetting stereotypes. I like defying people's expectations.

Not really. That's why I want to learn.

Hi. [you're used to psycho kids, right?]

[personal profile] prettyknives 2012-08-12 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds fun.

[oh then you're good]
alias_savant: ([elizabeth] sitting pretty)

Neal.

And I'd say to start with something simple. You said you're already good at things that involve boiling water -- I'd start with a basic pasta dish, and work your way up. Cooking is about knowing your strengths.

Do we have to eat them raw?

If ya need a guitar teacher, I'd be willing. Figure I should use my misspent youth for something.

That all depends on the sauce. When it comes to food, the ingredients are what count. Homemade doesn't always mean it's better.

But there are pasta dishes that come with sauces that are relatively easy to make on your own.

[personal profile] prettyknives 2012-08-12 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Okay, I'll try that.
alias_savant: ([neal] well well well)

No, it's fairly simple. Don't be afraid to taste it as you're adding the ingredients -- make sure you're getting the flavor you want
