There's silence as he glances around, still deeply suspicious of the whole situation. Then he raises his voice, and yep, that's loud and clear over the journals. Emphasis on 'loud']

Mojo! I know this is your doing! Show yourself!

[There's a muffled thump as he drops the journal, then a brief silence as he looks around suspiciously. Again. Then, finally, directed at the room and not the journal-]

I refused to be fooled by this trickery.

I may 'not even understand what normal is' when it comes to human culture, but I am not stupid.

I'm starting to believe so, though some are worse than others - Mojo rules an entire dimension. I was bred to be an arena fighter, for his entertainment, and he has never forgotten that I escaped.

Yes - though we were treated better than those on Earth. No point in ruining a fighter before a match.

[There's a slightly bitter edge to his voice - living on Earth is starting to make him realize how deeply fucked up his life has been]

[The castle doors slam shut, a small Japanese girl having entered. She nonchalantly approaches the redhead, bearing a kind smile.]

[On one hand, at least this time the woman involved isn't claiming to be his wife. On the other - that is not enough basis for trust. Have a very, very distrustful glare.]

Nobody sent me. I just happened to notice you were peering at your journal like it's going to bite you, which is usually a sign that a person is new here. It's not, by the way.

[He is still making slightly uncertain faces in your direction, though his posture has relaxed a little]

Yeah, it's a book you use to communicate with the other residents of the castle. It's fun!

I guess so...if that helps. But you wanna be careful about your messages: if you don't filter them to your friends, they will be heard by everyone who is using their journal.

I see. How do you use these filters?

[losemycherry]

It's mostly intuitive. You either tell the journal who you'd like the message filtered to, or you write it, depending on how you prefer to communicate with it. For example, if you only want nonhumans to see/hear a message, you say/write "filtered to nonhumans." Does that make sense?

This ain't the Mojoverse, mate, but it may as well be. You're in a place called Paradisa, a pocket dimension that takes something from us as price for entry, and in turn allows us to ask for most any material thing we want. Unfortunately, there's no way out.

So I've been told. Unfortunately, the castle took the memory of whoever she was away from me, among others. Only reason I know's because some version of her from another reality came here and told me we'd worked together.

That's the thing about this price, which we call a Loss. It can be most anything, from memories of a person, to some physical object that meant something to you, or a skill you might've had. It's though to be done to inflict some measure of pain on us, for whatever reason.

[Because okay, nobody has attacked him yet, but he's watched American reality television. He can see disturbing trends there]

Well, from what I understand about Mojoworld, it's all gladiatorial arenas and fat aliens screeching at you to perform. I've been in a few fights since I came here, but nothing that'd suggest we've got someone watching us like that. Sure, the castle's some kinda sentient, but it's never made any kind of contact with us.
