What did you learn in school, then?

Math, Grammar, History, Science, Diplomacy, Politics, Theology...

You know, stuff.

... Jeez, they didn't even have half of that stuff in "high school" either.

It's a kind of school they have on Earth for teenagers. I had to go a few times before, during world changes.

Oh, right! I remember Mark and Nora talking about that. I had a private tutor for that stuff. Then I went to the Sybak Academy which is...like Earth college? And I graduated from that a few years ago.

Yeah, they were in it before coming here, I think ...

Wow. I graduated from school when I was twelve ... I still had different lessons after that, but that's all that's really required.

Twelve, huh? That's pretty young.

[but not unheard of, as his tone sounds like. Especially in farming or very poor communities]

I think they feel nobles require few more years of schooling or something.

Even the really rich families work that way where I live. If you know the skills then you can graduate and get promoted to where you fit.

Heh. Sounds like a time saver.

I guess. There are people with natural bloodline abilities and stuff like that that make it easier for them to get promoted quickly anyways.

Yeah, certain families are born with different special abilities. For example, there's a family that all had a special kind of eye that provides a sort of foresight on their opponent. They can sort of predict what the other person would do.

Huh.

What's yours?

My family doesn't have anything like that. We have secret techniques but you have to learn them, you aren't just born with it.

Really?

Do those make it easier for you to get promoted?

Zelos

In some ways, it gives me an advantage over other people, yeah.

Ahh...I think I'm getting it now. [Honestly it's like home but with ninjas. Sure makes more sense than the US system that was explained to him]

What happens to those without bloodlines or secret family techniques?

Zelos

[ino]

It depends, I guess! For example, there's a guy I know who can't even use jutsu at all -- he can only fight hand-to-hand. But he's still been promoted to the same rank as me, though he's a little older. It's all about how hard you work, whether you can prove you're able to complete missions successfully without endangering lives, so on and so forth.

But I think people with those skills will get promoted quicker in general. For example, the highest rank below the village leader, the ANBU -- the captain of those forces was only thirteen, when I was a kid, and he had those eyes I mentioned before.

Oh, okay. [that's good to hear but then-]

Yeah, it kinda was. [since, you know, all the shit he had to deal with on top of that ... it's no wonder itachi is probably half psychotic] But it's an extreme example. I was halfway through the ranks at sixteen, and even that's considered impressive.
