Tenth birdsong (Expedition post)

[Anyone on the expedition may or may not notice something has gone missing. Didn't you just put that down and turn away for an instant? It's gone, now. Why? Rue's feeling mischievous and watching people looking for their missing things from her vantage point in the nearest tree is just funny.

Innocent as can be, she swings her feet a little, bouncing Timcanpy on her knee and singing softly to him. Timcanpy was slowly learning the songs she'd been singing and starts singing along with her, mimicking her voice. She giggles and pets the little guy]

You'll have lots of stuff to show Allen when we get home, won't you?

((OOC: Open post for the expedition-goers!! (Though everyone is welcome to hear her over the journal). For those on the expedition - feel free to notice something missing, notice the adorable duo up in one of the trees or just, well, go about your business. Threadjacking encouraged!))

[Is someone singing? Jane just barely hears it, and, ever curious, she follows the sound to the tree nearby and looks up at you.]

Gosh, how did you get up so high?

[She grins]

I climbed!

Well you've climbed awfully high! Aren't you scared?

[She smiles and shakes her head]

Nope. I worked at the orchard back home so I climb trees all the time.

[She nods and hums.]

I could never get very high on the tree in my yard. I suppose if you live around them, it's easy to climb them.

[There's a pause.] Have we talked before? Over the journals, perhaps? Your voice sounds familiar.

I had to every day so it got really easy, yeah.

Oh, yeah! I think so. I'm Rue. [She smiles]

Oh! Yes, I remember you, Rue! I'm Jane! [Grins!]

It's nice to meet you in person. [She smiles] I didn't know you were coming on the trip, too.

The same to you - about both things!

[Although she's kind of concerned that there's a young girl on a trip that she's been told could be dangerous...]

I'm so excited! I can't wait to see what's out there!

Me too! The possibilities are endless!

[She's coming down from her expedition gushing high and notices just how high up Rue is, even if it's not very high up. Hey, Jane's not really a tree climber herself, it's impressive.]

Gosh, you really CAN climb well...

[She giggles.] I told you.

[A grin.] You certainly did.

Do you want to come up, too? There's plenty of room.

Um...

[She sizes up the tree.]

I could try.

[She puts Timcanpy down on a branch and swings down, landing neatly on the ground]

I could help you if you'd like.

Oh my!

[She's kind of amazed at how easy that is for you.]

Um. Sure, I would appreciate the help...

[Years of practice, man. She smiles and looks up at the branch above her head]

Okay. See that branch? Reach up and grab it. If you can't pull yourself up I can give you a boost.

[That branch, eh? She eyes it for a moment before she reaches up and grabs onto it.]

Alright, then...here goes something.

[PULL PULL PULL PULL PULL PULL PULL

She's on her tiptoes and her cheeks are all puffed how as she tries to pull herself further...]

[Rue wraps her arms around Jane's legs and pulls up with all her might, helping her up.

She's pretty strong for a 12 year old, actually. Climbing trees and working on a farm will do that...]

You can do it!

[WHOA WHOA GOING UP

Jane yelps a bit and manages to get her elbows up on the tree, then she's...sort of leaning on it?]

[She giggles]

Come on! You can do it! [Have another push, Jane. You can do iiiit!]

[It's something of a miracle that Jane manages to pull herself up onto the tree without falling. With that last push, she somehow manages to straddle the branch, her legs locked around it and her hands gripping so hard her knuckles go white.]

Hoo...you're quite strong...

[Once Jane's in the tree she hops up, grabbing the branch and pulling herself up next to her]

I guess I am. I climb trees all the time so I guess I just got stronger.

How lucky!

[At least getting down from a tree is much easier.]
