Yesterday, we got on a river. It's in the middle of a natural aqueduct, like someone made a wall, put a river on the top of the wall, and stuck a lot of plants at the side. It's very tall. [UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE CENTURY]

There are some flying fish. Not just the ones that jump out of the water, but they can fly.

I don't think I can catch one and bring it back alive.

It looks like we'll be out on the water for a while longer.

It seems like anyway you go out into the Zone, you get to water at some point - if my readings on previous expeditions and the one I went on is anything to go by.

They aren't dangerous, these dish?

That makes sense... Unless we hit a desert region, there has to be some source and reserve of water for all the plants and animals here to thrive on.

No, not really... Unless they flew in your face and knocked you overboard...

Perhaps that is something to be noted, that we always hit water... is it possible we are on some sort of island...?

They do call the vessels that carry people to the stars "spaceships" too...

Really? I have not heard of those, but then, my world is one of magic and swords still. We are not anywhere near as advanced as some, as I have come to find out.

We had a lot of advanced technology, but it was lost to us over the years. Most of what I know know was from reading books in the library.

Well, the same goes for me when it comes to this place. We used to have a time of great technology, long ago, but it's all just legends really.

You've never rediscovered any?

We only have legends. There aren't any real texts of what they had and what they did. All we know is that they all ended in tragedy. Frankly, with that sort of ending, I have no wish to see what they did ever again.

But... What if someone did find some artifact? Shouldn't you learn to prevent whatever happened from repeating?

I suppose, but anything they had is lost. I do not think we even built our new countries anywhere near where they were - those are far away, destroyed beyond living by their magics.

...That would make it difficult. Unless...

Yeah... Even now, it's still hard to believe some of the things that happens in other worlds.

I feel exactly the same, but... it makes me hope for my own world, that they can someday achieve some of the things of these other worlds.

If you manage to catch one, bring it to a gentleman called James Watson. He has said many times that he'd like to bring back a few specimens alive.

That's understandable. Jame keeps all kinds of strange creatures, so this would be just one more he could study.

Maybe. I'm sure you'll run into him. If Dr. Brennan were still here and had her lab I'd be willing to do an autopsy, but without a functioning lab it's better the critter remain alive and well.

I don't think we should detract from the expedition by doing a thorough examination. When we go back to the castle, that seems to be the usual time for such things. I'm assuming flying fish function like any other fish. Keep them in water and reasonably fed. Also for the flying fish....in more concealed container?

But you don't have the equipment for a thorough examination.... I mean, it'll just be a way to pass the time...

No it's alright. I have first aid kit, but beyond that merely sharpened blades. As I said, Jame Watson might be the better prepared person.

I'll be sure to look for him when we get on land.
