I guess a lot of people have been leaving lately, huh?

[It's kind of an obvious observation. People have been filing in and out since he got here, but this is the first time it's hit someone he knew, someone from his own world. He hasn't talked to Belle in ages, and now he's realized it's because her nameplate is gone.

He's not quite sure how he feels about that, yet.]

How does the castle pick? Who goes and who stays. Does anybody even have an idea? It can't just be random.

They know some things. [As her bookmarks can attest.] But they don't know everything. The only people who know everything, I think, are the first gens.

Can we talk to them?

I don't know if it's safe.

Why wouldn't it be? They're like us, aren't they? They'd want to help.

Not everyone wants to help, when they're grown-ups.

But it's helping them, too.

Maybe they don't see it that way.

I don't get how.

Adults are ... selfish. In ways we don't really get it.

That's stupid. They should be doing whatever they can.

[She lifted her shoulders up in a shrug.]

Then I guess it's up to us to find them and tell them so.

I plan on going, before it gets cold. Do you want to come?

[He hesitates barely half a second.]

Yeah. Definitely. Were you gonna go soon?

The sooner the better.
