[Phoenix is enjoying the cooler air outdoors now, curled up beneath a tree out on the castle grounds; he poses a question to the castle at large.]
Let's say I hypothetically want to cook a really great meal to impress someone--any suggestions? What's the most impressive dish you can think of?
[And, in a few minutes, he adds some filters.]
That thing we were talking about the other day? ...that isn't for everyone to know.
Maya? I'm... thinking of starting up a law practice again around here.
...I don't know if you're interested, but I could still use an assistant if I ever get that off the ground...
[So nervous about asking this...]
If there's anyone still out there who remembers a girl named Trucy... Maya told me a little bit about her, and I'd like to know more. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

/rubs self all over the action choice.
[As Nick would be sitting at the tree, the Lanky
pain in the assscientist poked his head out from behind the tree, looking over his shoulder at his journal. Don't mind him and his wily grin...He was just being a little nosy... who he was trying to impress?
Because he was willing to help his friend with anything he could.
Don't let him help you oh god no.]Ehe... Wh-who are you going on about?
no subject
Ah!! ...It's nothing--nobody! Don't worry about it.
Where did you come from, anyway?
no subject
[He says, a bit too enthusiastically. In a swift motion, he plops down onto the grass beside his best friend and continues to lean over to look at his journal.]
Oh, come on! Who izzit?
no subject
[And he closes his journal a little to hide his list of food options from Wheatley.
BUT WHAT IF IT'S GLADOS, THEN WHAT]
no subject
[He laughs, trying to reach for the book.]
Oh come on, just a name'll do! Just a name! Do I know them? Izzit that drink mate?
[ITS JUST IMPRESSING ISN'T IT.]
no subject
[He literally facepalms at that.]
Yes.
no subject
[He nudges him.]
S'important to impress people.
You-you know what you should do? You should make food that-that's on fire. Saw it once in a magazine, mate. It was a cake. Can you believe that? A cake- th-that's on fire. It was supposed to be though. Obviously you can't make any old thing on fire, it-it'll burn and taste terrible. But certain things, uh... the things that are supposed to be on fire. Impressive. Definitely.
Do you know what I'm going on about?
no subject
Yeah... yeah, I get what you mean. Like cherries jubilee or something, but better, right?
[This is a terrible idea, Wheatley, why did you give it to him]
no subject
Uhh... w-well! I mean I'm not good with human foods, just a beginner but... but I suppose so! Sounds good at least.
They've flaming drinks too if you're not too sure about the cake... but I've gotta tell you mate.... if someone made me a flaming cake, I'd be honored. That'd be one lucky bloke you're making it for.
People don't just make those things for any old person. Surely.
When's the last time someone's made you a flaming cake?
[Trying to prove a point... that edgey SURE WOULD BE SPECIAL if he had a flaming cake...]
no subject
[He slams his hands down on his lap. Since there are no desks around.]
I've got to figure out how to do it!
Wheatley!! Where'd you see that firecake?
no subject
[He trails off a little, to think.]
In a magazine mate. It's up in my room.
no subject
[Clearly this is a CAKE EMERGENCY]
no subject
[He's getting up, he's getting up...]
S-say you're going to make it???? When?
[He's sounding excited.]
no subject
no subject
[Wheatley reaches a hand to Nick to help him up...
If he's getting this, you're coming with him.]
You should um... give it a go beforehand a few times. Y-you know. Get the feel for it. Make sure it's perfect. S-so you don't go about... well, um... failing miserably and embarrassing yourself terribly. That'd be awful.
no subject
[He nods seriously.]
The last thing I need to do is set his kitchen on fire...
[And he takes Wheatley's offered hand and gets to his feet, not even questioning this.]
no subject
Exactly.
[When he's up, Wheatley simply puts his hands in his pockets and begins to walk.]
Also! On another note.
I wanted to uh... you know, apologize.
For before mate. Shouldn't have done that whole bit with the... uh, you know... big round thing. Can't remember what it's called, but... that-that one was my fault. Taking credit for that. Or-or blame. Blame is... is a better word.
no subject
Please. It's better for everyone involved if we just never... ever... talk about the Ferris wheel again. Okay?
no subject
[He's been thinking of a way to apologize for days...]
Are you sure...?
[He swings his leg around a little, suddenly walking backwards to face Nick.]
no subject
[Besides, things have been much better since that night...]
...how's GLaDOS?
no subject
I'm sure she'll be alright though. She's a uh.... 'tough cookie' as they say it.
[He smiled.]
How's your mate?
[He meant 'mate' as in friend, not as in mating partner.]
no subject
[Not that Phoenix knows about taking care of sick AIs, but the offer still stands.
And surprisingly, for once, he does not misunderstand, but rather knows how "mate" is being used here. Maybe he's finally beginning to speak Wheatley's language....]
He's good, no... illness... to report of anybody else I know. What do you think's wrong with GLaDOS?
no subject
Well.. I don't know how you could help! Unless you're really an undercover doctor and you've been lying to me all this time...
[A chuckle, though his words sound a bit more serious.]
Well... no idea actually. She makes me nervous mate. Poor bird hasn't had a good night's sleep in days and I really don't know what to do with her. Tried giving her tea, soup... everything in the book. Though it's good to hear he's alright. Saw him in the music room. Bloke's a phenomenal musician. I-I was impressed. Blown away even!
no subject
[Although he's genuinely concerned for GLaDOS, he puffs up with pride at hearing Wheatley's comment about Edgeworth's musical talent.]
He is pretty amazing, isn't he? Especially, I think, when he doesn't realize someone's listening to him.
no subject
[He chuckles a little, eventually making it to the castle and opening the door for Nick.]
I wish he would teach me to be that good.
Don't know how I could begin to ask him though.
