These spikes are too random and with so much history of this world unknown to us, it's hard to actually make an attempt at statistics and find some kind of pattern.

Well, we did find out we're essentially the castle's batteries. Hellboy and I had a theory that the ones sent back are the ones the castle was finished with.

Finished with them....like it...couldn't get anymore energy out of them?

[That sounds AWFUL and reminds him of Akuma = which means BADNESS]

But...if that's so, then why do they bring people back? Or why don't they seem different when they go home?

We can only speculate... but you know how we're running across older [ CAPTIVES... but she really doesn't like to say this either ] residents in other worlds now? Well, if it's not just another part of Paradisa we've never been to.

So...they just get sent out there until they...have energy again?

That's what I'm thinking now. Maybe those places act like battery rechargers and they're brought back when they're needed.

[ But then, she doesn't want to imply they should be left behind in their fantasy life. Because that would also be wrong. ]

But there's no way to test that theory. Those people have no memories of how they wound up in those places and we don't tend to feel like we're having energy sucked from us.
