[He promised Korra he would ask people to come, so here we go]

Yo. Some cute girl named Korra wants to go up to the mountains on Saturday to train, so she doesn't terrify ducks or something with her powers. So I'll be gone all day since it's a few hours ride.

If any of you wanna tag along or whatever, I won't stop you. Korra sounded excited about the snow up there, so there's that.

[Zelos meanwhile is chilling under a tree near the duckpond, since the roof seemed lame today. He's got his hands behind his head as he rests again the tree, his legs stretched out in front of him. Mostly he seems to be watching things around him, still deciding whether or not he's glad to be back. The ducks are doing their own thing in the pond, though they seem to be evading him, even going out their way to do so and if one steps near it will even hiss at him. Because hey, they still remember him as the dude the tore up the place sparring with Korra.]

So, what elements can she control?

Uh...earth, fire, water...I think she's still learning air.

What about the others? Or does she work on them one at a time?

In her world, there's only four elements. They don't have light and dark, lightning's part of fire and ice's part of water.

It's pretty weird.

So that makes water the opposite of fire? [A pause as she thinks.]

You're right; that is weird.

I guess you can use water to put out fire...

That's not what I meant, and you know it!

I know! It's weird to me, I was just trying to rationalize it.

Oh. [Well, damn.]

Even though we've used fire to put out fires, I never thought they'd be opposites--since if you put enough dirt on a camp fire, it goes out, too.

Yeah, I guess so.

Sounds like the Waterbenders live in like...some snowy place like Flanoir? So they probably use ice a lot.

"Waterbenders"? Plural? You mean there are others who have that same ability?

[Excuse her while she digests this.]

Well, sorta. In that world- there's people who has powers over a single element. It's sorta like elves and half-elves use elemental magics? Except instead of knowing multiple elements, they really excel in one element and they call it bending. There's Earth, Fire, Water and Air bending.

The Avatar's the only one who can bend all four, and there's only one of them around.

[She's trying very hard to understand this.]

So, unless they're the Avatar? they only know spells for one element?

Yep, that's the gist of it!

[She's silent a moment.]

Are there a lot of these "Benders"? I- I don't mean the Avatar, the others.

I dunno. Sounded like they were common enough.

Common, huh?

[An ability not limited to one sort of person and marking them as "different"? Ironically, that probably impresses Sheena more than Korra's title does.]

So, is it a natural skill, or can anyone learn it?

Sounds like it's a natural thing, you're born with it or you're not. But it's so common that it's intertwined with their culture.

It's not perfect though. There's tensions between benders and non-benders, with jerks on both sides who make it worse. And there's wars between different types of benders too.

[And they leave it up to the Avatar to sort out the balance for everyone: a single kid. Which is simply what Zelos hates the most about the entire thing. No task like that should be left to a single person alone. It'll just make them, cough, well crazy]

Kind of like people who can sing or dance?

[Way to kill what little elation she has, Zelos. But, to be honest, she'd probably be more surprised if there hadn't been some kind of strife.]

Why can't people just accept each other the way they are? [She shakes her head before speaking, so the anger has time to get out of her voice.]

So, what do these different types of benders think about the Avatar? After all, she can control all of them.

[Okay, so it turned into bitterness.]

Well, people are complicated. To be fair, I don't know if the conflict comes just from ability differences or if there's something more to it. But they do sound more accepting than Tethe'alla and half-elves.

I dunno, I've only talked to one bender who was a friend to an Avatar and an Avatar themselves. Hard to get a full picture from that.

Are the benders a different race than the non-benders? [That's what it sounds like he's saying.]

Yeah. Two people don't always represent the truth of the situation, do they?

I don't think so...they sound one in the same.

Noope. Though they're good people.

[Sighs.]

I guess no matter where you go or where you're from, you'll find that. Seriously, why can't people just accept others for who they are?
