If it had been anyone but House, I'd be concerned about a doctor taking pleasure in his patients getting horrible, exotic diseases.

House is... complicated. As much as he takes pleasure in it, he treats them, he helps them. I think part of him likes saving people as much as he likes the puzzle.

Sure, I mean, if he doesn't win at the end, if he doesn't beat whatever it is, then the whole point of finding out what it is goes to waste. [House doesn't like to LOSE]
