Hey, guys! It's been a while, I know ... but there was the expedition, and the dinosaurs, and then getting back and settling in ... helping Pete out ... He's okay, now, by the way, in case you guys were worried. But ... I figured I should say hi, since we've got a lot of new people, and I haven't really introduced myself in a while.

My name's Dr. Ray Stantz, I'm a paranormal investigator and an engineer back home, which is New York at the tail end of the 20th century, for anyone who's curious. Back home I specialized in researching ghosts, spooks, spectres, and other supernatural phenomena, but lately I've been working on gathering data about all the stuff that goes on here. So, if anything out of what passes for "ordinary" around here happens, I'd love to hear from you so that I can try to help!

[there's a pause, as he reads over what the journal transcribed. yep, that looks good. he smiles to himself, then glances over the notes he's got spread out on the table around him]

Right now, though, I kinda need a break. And this last trip made me realize, I should probably come up with some way to defend myself a little better. I had a quick stint as a knight in Camelot, back home - long story - so I know a little bit about swords. Would anyone be willing to help me get better at it? Maybe help me get one of my own...?

Yep. We vanquished a demon named Koza-Rai, and his last act of defiance, so t' speak, was to send us all to different points in time. I ended up in the Golden Age of Camelot... And boy let me tell you, it's hard to make a working proton pack under those technological conditions.

No kidding? I've only had that kind of stuff happen to me when they put the whammy on me. Hallucinations and the like.

Yeah, no kidding. At first I thought it might actually only be a hallucination ... and then, well, one of the knights that found me cuffed me in the face for saying he wasn't real and talking about demons.

That put me straight pretty damn quick, lemme tell ya.

Anyway, swords ... there are probably blacksmiths in town, if you're okay dealing with the townsfolk.

You know, I hadn't really thought of that! But I'm totally fine dealin' with 'em, I help out at the Animal Shelter once a week, so. I'll have to ask around and see if I can find one that'll help me out.

... You wouldn't happen to know anyone who could show me how to use it, too?

I used to practice with an angel, but he's long gone. [There's a small touch of humor in his tone; he knows it's kind of morbidly funny. A demon and an angel sparring with swords.]

I'm okay with a sword but I don't really know anything stylistic, or traditional, or anything like that. I was never trained, is what I'm saying. I just sort of swing it around and it works.

That's kinda how I ended up using mine, back at Camelot - only I rigged a steam-powered proton pack to it, too. [we don't ask how you make a steam-powered proton pack because comic continuity is WEIRD, thanks for that IDW]

I guess I just figured it might help to learn a little more defensive stuff... other than just sticking the sharp end into things.

Ha. You're probably right about that. I can get knocked around a lot more than a normal person, so I've never really thought about it that way.

There are a few medieval people here -- maybe one of them could help you out.

It's okay. When I worked for the Bureau, they tended to send me on missions where I would get beat up a lot. So it's kind of a win-lose situation.
