[After the expedition, Sheena had opted to remain at the castle instead of returning to Lloyd's house for two reasons. One, she was just utterly exhausted and felt she wouldn't be able to make it; and two, she had taken Danny to the clinic where he had yet to wake up after his fall off one of the bird statues during the trip. At least he had been safe on one of the boats when the birds attacked.

Now, after yet another visit to check on the young man, Sheena's sitting in her room, journal open and brush in hand.]

It's been a few days since we got back from the expedition, and now that I've gotten a lot of sleep and did some healing, I can write about it. First, let me just say I'm not too happy about the Dead Zone's affects on people. I mean, how can it be able to do that since people have different abilities? And it's not just people, is it? Machines don't work there, either.

I know the castle can take away people's memories, but does it read minds, too? It would be one way to learn how our powers work.

But, I guess enough of that. I'm back, and now it's time to get to work. The DeathMatch opened, right?

[She pauses before continuing her next set of messages with swift, neat strokes.]

Can you tell me now why you were so interested in that bird? It kind of reminded me of that yellow one Cloud was riding; is that why you wanted to take it with us? And how's it doing, by the way? I hope no one's tried to hurt it after all this time. [She doesn't care for experiments like that on living animals.]

Hey. I took a rubbing of that strange carving on the wall by the cave entrance. I was talking to someone about it, and...[She actually stops writing for a few minutes before resuming, writing hurriedly because if she doesn't, she'll never get it out.]

And I'm okay. Got a little banged up thanks to the birds, but I'm doing okay. How about you?

Ah, that's good. I'm doing pretty good as well... I only got hurt a bit during the attack. [although then he caused damage to himself alsdkfjsdf]

I know, right? It's so inconvenient to suddenly have no special powers whatsoever, it's so hard to live like that. How can anyone manage it day in and day out for the entirety of their lives?

Actually, it was kind of nice to be like everyone else, but it was like losing something important to me. I mean, I could really feel the emptiness.

[Narrows her eyes in a sarcastic manner.]

Maybe next time, it'll take away your ability to play guitar and sing so you can understand.

I'm crying actual tears for you right now.

That's fine, because that's a hobby and I have more than one.

I went through a lot because of my abilities, and yeah, I guess I would be better off without them, but that wouldn't be fair to those who-- [She cuts herself off.]

But it's still an ability not everyone has, Once-ler. That's my point.

And my point is some of us have to go through existence without anything to help us along at all. Sure, they don't work in the dead zone, but they do here. That puts your survival chances a heck of a lot higher than us average joes if something decides to attack the castle.

[That's not necessarily a good thing.]

I didn't have any of them when the birds attacked, and I survived that. And that was because of my grandpa's training.

[Yep, she's proud of her grandpa. A pause.]

I'll be more than happy to train you if you like. My strength is hand-to-hand.

I'm not exactly the best at doing...well, anything physical, actually.

[unnaturalpause]

No one has yet to harm it, and it is doing as well as to be expected. [A pause as he tries to figure out how to reassure people that no he's not out to experiment on it.]

It, is a prehistoric creature from my world that is long since dead. I have no intention on experimenting on it, just doing a few harmless tests on it as I observe it.

[His words send an alarm through her.] It's okay, isn't it? I mean, it's eating, right? [Change of environment can do strange things to animals as well as people.]

Are you from the same world Cloud is? [Because of the birdy similarities] But what kind of tests are you performing on it? [To Sheena, a test is experimenting, thanks to what had been done to Corrine.]

Oh? Let me see the rubbing first, if you would, and then the theory behind it.

Okay. Let me get it out and retrace it here. [She might screw it up if she goes by memory.]

A friend pointed out that the symbol at the bottom looked like the bird statues on the beach, and a couple of others reminded me of elements.

Could they also be statues somewhere, and all those lines are actually passages through caves connecting all of them? I mean, we did have a left and a right path at the cave entrance.

[She trails off, now totally unsure of what had seemed like a plausible idea at the time.]

Hmm. Well, that's certainly a thought. What do you think the other elemental symbols might represent then, in terms of places?

[She knew there were tunnels in Libet, and even Paradisa had the Insolitus.]

Well, the bottom one looks like a bird, and the next one on the left kind of reminds me of wind. And the top two look like flames to me.

[She knows it sounds silly, but after all the ruins they had been in, markings like that are somewhat familiar.]

That's a good analysis. Perhaps we should make a copy of these symbols and look for them in the other places we visit? Perhaps there's some kind of power that can be activated if we visit all the locations.
