[After a few hours, Martel has realized she's one, trapped in the lobby, and two, her wings have appeared and won't retract. So she's stuck with sitting in the lobby on the couch, with her pink mana wings. Obviously this is a loss, and obviously someone is going to walk by and notice. So she'll deal with it as it comes up. But, she's also hungry, and can't even get out of the lobby to the kitchen.]

Ah, could anyone bring me some food? I seem to be on a loss, and I'm stuck in the lobby.

Yes, I can fly with them. [She demonstrates by floating off the couch. It's more of a hovering right now since she's not even flapping them, really.] They're sort of a side-affect of equipping a special crystal.

So then anyone who equips it would get them? And you'd lose them in the process, if someone were to take yours?

Well, yes, but... If you equip the crystal to your skin it can be incredibly dangerous. You need a special mount.

I understand. I have something similar, but it's technological, and I'm assuming whatever your crystal is, it's more magically orientated, correct?

Probably, yes. I have heard, though, that most magic is just advanced technology. But...we use our magic to power technology, so I don't know if that counts or not. The crystals actually grow underground in a special mine.

Hm. So they're kind've like...organic batteries.

Still I'd say that classifies the source as magical at least. None of the worlds I know of have anything like that.

It probably is. I know a lot of people here don't believe in magic, though, even though it's a fact of life for me.

Don't believe in magic?

It's very much real. If they don't come from a world with magic that's well enough, but surely being brought here must open their eyes.

Some people maybe, but others not so much. Maybe they just don't want to believe this is happening to them. [She's met people with that healthy dose of denial before.]

Hm. That's their problem then. It's going to be frustrating trying to figure things out while leaving magic out of the list of possible reasons.

[Annnnnd he'll just sit himself down on that couch beside Martel, sitting at an angle slightly to face her.]

After all, traditional sciences are pretty much the polar opposite of magic. People who abide by them won't get anywhere sticking by it's laws so strictly.

[She'll slide herself at an angle too, to face him.] Well, that's why I try to compromise and say that technology in my world can run on magic. Magitechnology. We run different types of mana through it, but more commonly Lightening mana. So it's sort of science. Creating and using spells is a sort of science too.

It isn't that different from regular tech, then. Electricity is used to power machinery in the worlds I've been to as well, the source is simply different.

I guess the processes are similar, it's just the way they're implemented that differ.

Shame other people can't realize that. It'd be useful.

Magitechnology isn't always a good thing, though. Using too much was what depleted the mana on my world and killed the Great Tree.

Seems that's another similarity. Humanity tends to overuse it's resources as well; they use faster than they can replace.

The future doesn't look good.

The Great Tree, the Giant Kharlan Tree... It's the world tree, and the source of all mana. [And since all the creatures in her world rely on mana, you can put two and two together and realize exactly what killing it means.]

[And watch him work it out without knowing about the dependency on mana.

Cause he's haxx like that.]

So if the tree goes, the world goes.

Basically. However, the tree made a seed before it died. So all hope is not lost. The seed does make mana, and the world will be able to survive until it can be germinated.

Doesn't mean much if they're just going to work that one to the point of decay too.

[Don't tell her that!] Well, we stopped the war that was using magitechnology. So maybe, people will realize, after such a close call.

We can only hope.

[Said halfheartedly. This guy is half pessimist, half cynic unfortunately.]

Or maybe following the moment of relief it creates they'll become complacent with the situation and start all over again.

I can't think like that, and I won't think like that. I'll always have hope, that people will do the right thing. [Yes. even if it all seems lost, even if it hurts. She'll still believe.]

[Yeah he expected that...not like he's going to not voice his opinion to avoid offending someone though.]

That's probably for the best. I don't want to argue.[She doesn't actually mind.]

Some people think I trust too easily. But I don't feel like that at all.

It's better to be too trusting than to close yourself off from the world.

I won't berate you for that. It's not a bad thing in my opinion.
