09-Wings [action/dictated;]

[After a few hours, Martel has realized she's one, trapped in the lobby, and two, her wings have appeared and won't retract. So she's stuck with sitting in the lobby on the couch, with her pink mana wings. Obviously this is a loss, and obviously someone is going to walk by and notice. So she'll deal with it as it comes up. But, she's also hungry, and can't even get out of the lobby to the kitchen.]

Ah, could anyone bring me some food? I seem to be on a loss, and I'm stuck in the lobby.

[Carson is just a very nice guy.

He returns about ten minutes later with some fruit, a box of biscuits and a bag of share-size crisps.]

I hope this is okay.

Oh, it's fine! Turns out I actually like potato chips. I've never had them before today. Nothing like that on my world. [She takes the food with a smile, flicking her wings.]

So, are these normal?

[He asks, motioning to the wings]

Or a part of the loss that's stopping you from leaving?

The wings are mine, I promise. [That seems to be a worry of everyone she talks to.] I just can't make them disappear right now. Or leave the lobby.

[His tone isn't much one of worry, more of curiosity]

What are they made of? I've seen magic around here before, but nothing like this.

Mana. The life force of my world, created by the world tree. It's in every living thing and the environment back on Aselia. The wings are actually a part of my personal mana put into a solid form.

Well, I've never seen anything like it.

[Carson's still examining the wings curiously.]

We don't even have magic on our world...s.

[Added the plural in there, because, well, Lantea and Atlantis]

I know. Maybe that's why everyone's so skeptical. But I think my world runs on a different system. But, I just met someone from a different world than mine who knew what mana was! [She was very excited about that.]

I have to admit, I was a wee bit skeptical at first, but it should be possible. We've discovered advancements in human genetics which can be considered as magic, so why can't real magic exist?

[heal_theworld]

The thing is, mana can be applied to technology. It's not particularly safe if you use a lot of mana to power magitechnology, as it depletes the mana in the atmosphere faster than the world tree can produce it.

[atadiscoverer]

So... Like there not being enough trees to produce oxygen? [He's trying to put this in words he can understand]

What happens if the mana runs out?

[heal_theworld]

[There's one simple answer to that.] ...Everything dies. It won't be immediately, but soon, everything will die. Crops will wither, livestock will die. Plants will stop blooming. Spells will stop working. Cities will crumble and those machines will shut down.

... So it's the same as our world. We're slowly choking our planet.

[heal_theworld]

There is hope, though. The war that was using so much mana to power magitechnology battle machines has been stopped. And the Great Tree had a seed.

[atadiscoverer]

So, with two trees, there'll be more mana?

[Carson is trying to understand this.]

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions.

[heal_theworld]

Oh, no, you're fine. And they're aren't two trees. There can only be one. The Great Tree died as a result of the war, but before it died, it bore a seed for a new world tree.

[atadiscoverer]

[This is all very interesting]

Well, at least your world has a chance to live.

[heal_theworld]

Yes. Once the seed germinates... Then our world has a chance. [But she knows from what she has been told that it doesn't happen. Not yet, at least.]

Well, that's good to hear.

[He smiles as he looks back to the wings.]

So, these are solid?

[heal_theworld]

As solid as they can be. They are energy, after all. But they can be touched. And of course, I can fly with them.

[Carson is already pulling out his medical scanner.]

Would you mind if I took a few wee scans, just so I can examine this further?

[heal_theworld]

No, of course not! [She's not quite sure what he'll find, but he can.]

[The device starts beeping as Carson holds it up in Martel's direction.

What the doctor will see is an unknown substance existing in and around Martel's body. The figure representing her body is covered in the Ancient equivalent of "?????"]

Well, at least I know that the Ancients have never come across mana before.

Hm? [She's looking curiously at the device.] What does it do?

[atadiscoverer]

Oh, this? [He should be used to this question.]

It makes a scan of the body and can detect most illnesses and injuries, as long as their in the Ancient Database, or our own.
