 Goodness!  How very strange.

[The boy's mild exclamation is muffled by the large case he was kneeling to inspect and the tumble of the journal falling out of his backpack.  Will always made a point of checking out the new deliveries each week after school let out.   This shop always had the most fascinating pieces of metalwork.  

He's always found something comfortingly familiar in the look and feel of this craft.]

Was this done by engraving, do you think?  The pattern is so very odd,

Mayhaps...I have mistaken you for another. [It's always a difficult decision for her; when and how to tell people the truth. She'll feel things out for now.]

That is possible. [His answer is mildly spoken.] I have often been told that I have a rather unremarkable appearance that is easily mistaken for others.

Then you are more patient than I. Forgive me, I should state my name. I am called Galadriel. Does that mean aught to you? [She can hope it will trigger something. Doesn't seem likely, but she can hope.]

It seems familiar to me, but I cannot remember ever meeting anyone by that name. [His tone is troubled.]

Just an odd pattern in this buckle.

[He responds absently to the question, still mostly intent on the item in front of him.]

It looks like some sort of knot pattern.

A Celtic knot, perhaps?

This is one type of knot. There are more complex patterns, depending on how intricate the artist wants it to be, but they usually have the same elements.

It's marvelous, isn't it? I am in the jewelry shop in town. I like looking at all the engraving. It's like an art, isn't it?

But today... today a new item came in. It is very strange, but something about the knotwork on this belt reminds me of something. [His tone softens with slight upset.] Although I could not say what it is.

It must be so, I suppose. [Although something about this still bothered him. He couldn't remember forgetting anything. But how was one to know?]

It is so. You shall remember all that has been lost, but only if freedom is granted.

[ If only they could escape from here...]

Freedom? What do you mean by that?

[ Will was puzzled.]

I cannot remember living anywhere else.

Is that so? Yet you confess to the feeling as if you have forgotten something...important.

I know. And I cannot explain that feeling. It is strange, isn't it? It is like something half remembered and half-forgotten, with strange familiarities that peek out sometimes. Like you will sometimes catch a glimpse of something familiar out of the corner of your eye. And yet when you turn to fully see it it is gone.

You are correct since our memories are often the price we pay for our unwilling admittance here.

Sorry, I am not sure I understand.

[ A dejected sigh could be heard. ] In all due truth you're supposed to, at least not yet.

Then I suppose I shall have to wait until the right time. [The boy's response is absolutely calm and matter of fact, with not a single hint of any impatience or frustration.]

[Odd. Unlike most who seem to hold an impatient or a rather arrogant flair to them, this child seems almost indifferent. ]

Until then all will remain a mystery to you, but only if you refuse to seek the truth.
