Teleportation is problematic. Without a guiding mind, the possibility of a gruesome death upon arrival is, for most intents and purposes, certain. Therefore I must be fortune's favorite, unless--

Gentlemen, ladies. Let's talk, shall we?

But surely the point of a "meritocracy" is to ensure the best fit for every position in society. How can that be possible without true equality?

True equality is impossible. For there to be true equality, no one can have more wealth, or more power, or more influence, or more intelligence, or more anything than anyone else.

In my world, if you want something, you take it. You win it by rights. I'm ruler of my kingdom because I'm the most powerful person in it. Other kingdoms and villages send me tribute because I and my army are powerful enough to conquer them if they don't. It really doesn't matter how good of a monarch I am, though I like to think I'm a good one -- I'm powerful enough to not care. I shouldn't be asked to restrain my power just because someone might be considered better at one particular aspect of my reign.

In my society, popularity and influence matter much less than one's ability to destroy all obstacles in one's way.

I've decided that this kingdom requires a different approach, anyway.

As well you should be.
