[Thanks to Larry not knowing how to operate a stepladder correctly, Phoenix is currently laid up in bed, blue cast on his right leg, and an endless stream of whining ever at the ready.

He's also incredibly bored. Painting and drawing got old long ago, and he can't seem to stay focused on anything he tries to read. Never mind that he could probably pretty easily get out of bed and actually do something despite his (not very severely) broken leg...

He whines, over-dramatic, into the journal.]

Don't trust Larry Butz, everybody... he'll just break your bones and make you miserable...

[With a bit of apprehension, he adds a filter.]



Um... Trucy? ...mind keeping your uh... old man... company for a little while?

[Good lord but he feels ridiculous even asking this of a teenager he's only just recently met.]

Not necessarily. I work on the murder cases that you happen to be involved with, so I could see where you'd get that impression. Then again, I tend to pick up cases that eventually ends up in murder, for some reason.

Huh... what other kinds of cases have you worked on, then?

[Underneath Edgeworth is the best time to be asking this.]

[And so impressive. His admiration for Edgeworth has just increased yet again.]

I guess, but I've rarely felt like I was in danger at work. A few times... but rarely.

That is because the area in your brain that perceives danger has been long damaged.

[He grins.]

Fine, fine...

[He puffs up the pillow behind his head.]

But if I need those painkillers in the night, it's on you to get them.

I don't see why I need to be reminded. [Assumes the spooning position once more]

Fair enough.

[When Edgeworth's arms are around him once again, he exhales slowly, settling down with a smile as he begins to drift off.]

...rest well.

[He sighs complacently, slowly nuzzling his cheek again Phoenix's (as best as he is able, anyway). He doesn't return the courtesy immediately, instead opting to indulge in the affectionate warmth of the one who, for reasons still unknown to him, commands his fullest adoration. When he finally speaks, however, his voice is soft, and he breaths the sentiments into his lover's ear devoid of the constraints brought upon by being fully alert...]

[Phoenix is already nearly asleep when Edgeworth speaks; when he hears the words, he breaks into a sleepy, sloppy smile and reaches back to drape an arm a bit awkwardly over his lover's hip.

He murmurs a response, just on the verge of sleep:]

Mmm... love you...
