I'm gonna take a few days off. If the weekend... and whatever the castle opted to put you through was too much, just let me know and I'll just let the ghosts run it for the week. [Normally, Jo would protest making the ghosts work, but she doesn't have it in her to argue that right now.]

Otherwise I'll be back in on Friday night.

[Max is not going to talk about it. Nope, not talking. But there's one quick caveat to that.]

Whatever the hell this was stole all the booze.

[she was behind the bar when she passed out, which meant that these things probably climbed all over her. gross. this is why she doesn't sleep.

What do you mean... stole all the booze?

I mean we are currently a dry establishment. I came to and there wasn't a drop in the place. And since the castle was out cold, I'm going to venture a guess and say whatever knocked us out was the one that took it.

[shrugs]

Either that, or the castle is taking a stand against alcoholism. I wouldn't be surprised if it was, but I kinda doubt it.

[Jo groans. Not that she doesn't mind the distraction, but this isn't exactly what she wanted.]

If you want to talk to the local brewers... [Her fingers pinch to the bridge of her nose.]

The Death Match probably got hit too. It's gonna be a while before we can even get a reserve back up and I'm not going to wish it up. I'll see what I can figure out in the city -- is anyone looking into this?

Maybe. I haven't asked.

If you can handle the castle end of things I can handle the city side. I think Reno's running the DM, so if you want to ask him about his stock - if he knows any of the suppliers in the city - it could help us split the gap between now and whenever we have a better stock.

I'll see if Steve can handle redoing the menus until we get things settled.

I don't know Reno, but I know Travis. Either way, approaching them business wise is no big. I'll take care of it.

Does the non-answer mean we're not talking about it?

[because she's not going to push. she just wants to be sure they're both n the same page.]

[It takes her a bit to reply.]

I'll be okay. [She won't discuss it, not with Max -- or probably anyone, but she knows she's stronger than whatever the castle can push her through.]

[Max didn't doubt that. She knows Jo well enough to know that if the castle had really gotten under her skin that this would be a very different conversation, but she wanted to check, just in case.]

You know I can take care of myself. [There might have been a boast here about how it would take more than nightmares to get him down, but now is not the right time for that.]

I'm more concerned about what spooked you. [He won't ask just yet.]

I know you can and I'm grateful for the help while I'm taking some time off. [She'll skip over what has her staying away from the castle.]

Hey, can you see about making up some temporary signs that say we're out of alcohol? Apparently, we've been robbed clean.

... Are you telling me someone had the nerve to rob us while we were- [Not the point. Steve exhales audibly.]

I'll take care of it.

It was pretty castle wide, from what I hear. Alcohol, candles - who knows what else. City was clear, which makes me just want to make everyone move into my house.

Can't say I blame you. I'd be packing bags for people already if I was in your position.

I'm gonna ask Chase to move in. [She could've talked to Max about it, but she's talking to Steve instead.]

Think he'll go for it?

I don't know.

[She pauses, picking at a stray thread on her jeans.]

I know he doesn't like the castle and all the magic, but he works in the clinic. So it's closer for him.

It's not much of a walk if he wants to get away from all this. Maybe someone can give him a ride back and forth too.
