6. I need to get my story straight

The more time I spend in this place, the more curious about it I become. Fairies, nightmares, turning into talking ponies and into normal animals... and that is only scratching the surface.

I realize the pursuit of knowledge could be [A long pause] potentially difficult, however. I suppose what I am asking is, would I harm anyone by trying, or would I be best served minding my own business?

I know it has been some weeks, but I apologize if you found my conduct at the ball to be... too forward. I do not know what came over me in that room.

Not as much as I did when my sister first left.

I think time, as always, will heal everything. I have been making more of an effort to make more connections, too, which has helped.

So long as one does not let the wound fester.

I will try not to let that happen. Only having myself to look after is still rather new to me.

[ She chuckles. Looking after herself is new to her. ] Shall I introduce you to my young friends or is that intended only for your sister?

Not at all; I'd be happy to.

Shall we ensnare them with sweets or have you any hidden talents with children?

[pompous_today]

The sweets may help; people in general are usually wary about seeing the doctor, after all.

Is that so? I should think the public are wary of falling ill but not of the doctor that can cure them.

As long as you don't blow the place up, I don't give a damn.

I have no plans to do so, thankfully.

Today? Or ever?

['Cause he'd like to not blow up ever, either.]

Ever. I would never wish to inflict harm on another.

A nice thought. Not even if some guy were trying to beat you up?

Well, that would be different, I suppose. I am a doctor, though; healing is where my strength lies.

[likebreathing]

It's a strength more people should have. [He's surrounded by people who constantly destroy, so he has a respect for doctors.] You had to do any doctoring stuff here yet?

[pompous_today]

I agree, but I know not everyone is suited for it... much like I'm not a fighter.

Not much, but then again, I have only been here for a few months. Usually whenever some calamitous injury happens, the other medics get to it before I can. I have never before encountered people with healing gifts.

[There's a noncommittal grunt picked up by the journal.]

They come in handy. Only a few months though? What do you think of this place?

[Rictor's still wary of it, but he's only been here a few days.]

I am mostly curious about the fact that people from my world have been here before, so perhaps.

And they're not now. So why worry about it?

Because it is nagging at me that they could arrive here, be here for a few months, then leave without any time having passed back home, not remembering ever being here.

Doesn't everybody else say it's just castle magic?

Yes. I find it hard to simply accept, though. Admittedly, it may be because I come from a world where magic does not exist.

Well then, you got another hypothesis?

Not at the moment.

I'm not exactly a scientist, but I'd think that'd be a pretty good place to start.
