Doesn't look good...

[since she went to bed early, Sayaka missed all the ruckus going down last night. While headed down the steps of Gaudium Tower, the journal catches the tail end of her thinking aloud, but also distracts her from noticing another presence until it gets close...

...too close.

The cat springs.

Everything happens quickly. Before she can react, the cat has already begun making its escape. Thrown off balance, the leg she was taking her next step with gone, Sayaka tumbles down the stairway, journal landing somewhere in the distance. The open pages record a shocked cry fading as she falls further away from them, mixed among sickening thumps]

[much, much later, unknowingly dictated:]

WHY ISN'T THIS WORKING?!

[Holy moley, that scream! Jane can barely breathe after hearing it. After checking her tower for the source and coming up short, she deduces that it had to have come from the journal-

And then she hears your dictation.]

Excuse me? Excuse me, are you alright? Do you need some help?!

[she's recovered her journal by now, but none of her composure; Jane's voice is what makes her realize she was broadcasting something that definitely was not meant to be overheard]

... No. [not alright, would like help, though she hasn't the foggiest what could fix herself] I'm in my room.

There's something on the loose.

What is it, what did it do?

Are you sure you don't need any help??

Unless you can give me a leg to stand on again, I really doubt it. [her regeneration magic worked --works! -- on everything. Except the disgusting stump at her hip]

Watch out for a cat-like creature. It's been attacking people since last night.

...Oh my-

[A sharp gasp.]

Y-you're really missing a leg?? Are you bleeding - wait, that is an idiotic question. Do you have anything to stop the bleeding????

[Yep, that bit about the cat went right over her head.]

Sayaka? Sayaka! What the hell is going on!?

I'm not bleeding at all! My leg's just...gone! [whoops, there we go, running headlong into hysterics territory again]

[the reply is delayed for obvious reasons, though when she speaks, panic remains evident in her voice]

I fell. Stay out of the castle! It's not safe.

[The cry --she could hear it from both, the journal and somewhere close. Being on one of her routine patrols, had paid off at last. The wolf runs towards the noises, arriving too late to see anything else but someone on the floor.

She approaches and recognizes Sayaka, but Amaterasu freezes for a moment before going any closer. What in the name of the gods was going on here?! Why was the kid missing her leg!?

At last she hurries near her, whining and yipping at her, trying to help her in someway. What happened here?!]

Ah...

[is it a gasp, or is she trying to call out to Amaterasu? She doesn't know. The fall evidently knocked the wind out of her, and while Sayaka's still (almost miraculously) conscious, pain and disorientation keep her from attempting to get up.

In the end, she just rolls onto her side, in the direction the barking came from. Speech will come later]

It's GONE?!?

How?!?!?!

The cat! [ffff IT SOUNDS RIDICULOUS EVEN TO HERSELF, and she's seen much worse] It grabbed me and made off with my leg, I saw it!

A...CAT did this to you?!

[Why did her mind jump to that freakish cat with hands...]

W-What did it look like??

[She doesn't care much about an explanation right now, but take the girl somewhere safe. Somewhere like the clinic, maybe. When Amaterasu is close enough, she grabs Sayaka from her clothes as delicate as she can, lifting her into her back. She's not going to let her fall.

Her room is closer though, so she will get her there better.]

The worst of strays, only uglier. I wasn't the first it did this to, I think it's replacing its body parts with ours.

[yes, this works too. No resistance from her end -- she can fix herself with magic, but not out where anyone might see, which would only invite troublesome questions. Those are especially unneeded right now. The comfort is much appreciated]

You know that I know that that's a crap excuse. And you're going to get an earful later on that, but right now, that's not important. What the hell happened?

I fell! It's not an excuse! [fhl he's going to search for her, isn't he]

[he sighs] I know you're trying to keep me safe, but I don't know what to expect if it's dangerous. Just telling me that it's not safe isn't going to protect me. Kids got kidnapped because the adults decided not to tell them about the creepy monster person thing going around kidnapping them!

What are you going on about -- [no, now's not the time]

There's a weird...cat-thing running around. Other people have been attacked by it, too.

See, that's useful to know. A cat. Thing. People don't think twice about cats these days and would probably go to pet it.

[Once they get to her room (and after the door decides to cooperate with her) she lies her down on her bed. Licks her face several times in what she thinks might be soothing, then examines her leg... What the heck? Who did this and why?]

What?!?

Oh my gosh...why haven't I seen something like this yet?? I should check the journal entries-

Are you sure you're going to be alright?

[A benefit to being a book was that, frankly, he had no limbs for the creature to steal. Hence why he's floating nearby, wandering the halls, and comes across...this scene.

well, okay, she's doing far better than she was earlier, that counts for something, right?] Yeah. Read up, get prepared. Don't let it catch you unawares.
