[Anyone who witnessed one of his dreams]

I know it's been a couple weeks, but I...want to apologise to anyone who had to witness one of my dreams. I know many of you might refuse the apology, but I wish to do so all the same.

[And here comes the part he's been steeling himself to do for awhile now. He knows what he has to say might come off as rude or harsh...but it's important.]

Hello. My name is Allen Walker, some of you might know me from working with me at the clinic.

Anyway, I wish to inquire if there was any of you who would hold interest in taking on a student. My former teacher was sent home and I wish to continue learning medicine so I can be of better help in the castle.

I am no beginner. I do not need to know first aid for I've learned it enough times to teach it. I studied under Dr. Gregory House for close to a year and have work experience in the clinic as well as some of the city's hospitals for the entirety of that time. Though I know I still have much to learn.

And most of all, I don't want a teacher that will go easy on me. I wish to save lives, not be placated like I'm a child as people have been prone to do in the past with me. I realise I sound very young, but I assure you I will be twenty-two this December.

If...there's anyone who would be interested in taking me on...I would be very grateful.

[And with that, Allen is hanging out in the lobby today. He's sitting on a couch, while leaning over a coffee table that has a medical text and a notebook resting on them. He's got numerous stacks of books near him, and occasionally jotting down notes in the notebook.]

[Yeah. Somehow this was an easier study spot than his house full of squirrels and fail!demons. Who would've thought?]

No...[a pause as he tries to recall] A priest did....no wait, an Exorcist. [That's right, Timcanpy was there now that he thinks about it more...]

Oh. [ The rest is voiced as a question: ] You're one too. An Exorcist. You told me so.

That's right. Though I didn't start down that path until several years after that incident.

What happened to your arm?

What do you mean?

[It isn't a harsh question, more trying to clarify]

Well, you couldn't move it before, could you. You can move it now.

Ah, that's right.

I had a...damaged nerve. That caused the arm to be paralyzed. I simply didn't know that at the time.

A what?

A nerve, oh um...

A nerve is...a special part of your body that allows your brain to communicate and control the rest of your body. Like if you wish to tell your hand to move, your brain does that by sending the message through the nerves to your hand.

[ Guess who is staring at and poking her arm now. You have three guesses and the first two don't count. ]

Truly? I've those things in me?

[ Arya pulls at the skin of her forearm as if that might reveal everything hidden underneath it. ]

I thought the blue lines are veins...

[a very soft amused sound]

You're not wrong, those are veins. Nerves are much smaller, so they're harder to see from the skin. But they're just as important as veins.

So I can't see them at all?

Hopefully, no. An exposed nerve can be incredibly painful. [SO DON'T TRY]

Huh.

[ She twists her arm, trying to see the back of it. She gives up with a sigh. ]

Where did you learn so much?

[Technically he knew that fact since he was a child from doctors who looked at his arm, but you know let's not make the girl feel stupid ]

From books and doctors. I'm studying to be one, actually.

Don't you have to go somewhere special to study that?

Normally, yes. My world has schools where people go to study to become doctors.

But since this world lacks those sorts of places, I've been asking the doctors of the clinic to teach me their trade.

You can't heal by magic then?

No, I can't. I do it without magic.

I'm glad. From what I've seen of the people here, most wouldn't even try. They'd just see it as a waste of time. Especially with the healers here. It's nice to know someone is still willing to work at something.

Well, learning magic can be a lot of hard work as well. Where I'm from, it takes many years to become a skillful sorcerer.

But...I've also learned during my time here that magic cannot repair every injury. And I wish to help as many people as I can, but only knowing how to fight demons was not enough to do that all the time.
