Does anypony know about dying manes?

I'm trying to finish up my costume for Nightmare Night but I really don't know anything about dying manes. I could try a wig, but... the castle does have some limitations on wishes, and I'd rather not rely on wishes anyway. It's a pretty specific pattern and color, too, so I doubt I could find one shopping in town.

Of course, if I do dying instead of buying a wig, that does mean that I'll have to style my mane as well.

...Ugh. I wish Rarity were here. She'd know all about this sort of thing...

[ A sigh. ] At least my costume is almost done.

You just put the color stuff in it, and then wash it out. It isn't hard.

But what if I need different shades?

Then you just put the different colors where you need them!

Er, mane.

Oh. Well, most ponies are fairly dextrous with their hooves. But since I'm a unicorn pony, I usually just use magic.

Ummm, I think it's called "Halloween" on Earth. Or that's a pretty close parallel, anyway.

Yeah... That doesn't say much.

It's a night where everypony dresses in costume. There's usually games, and the adults pass out candy to all the foals.

I'm trying to do streaks of varying shades of gray.

I'm going to be dressing up as Daring Do, an archeologist with a penchant for amazing adventures.

Well, we can definitely use spray color for that. Then it's not permanent too.

Spray color....? [ EXPLAIN. ]

It's temporary color that sprays onto your hair. It coats it so that the original color doesn't come through. It's like using hairspray, but instead of just keeping your hair styled, it keeps it colored.

Oh, wow! That sounds useful! Just what I need, really.

Well, whenever you're ready you can come by my room. I can help you out with the coloring. [She gives her directions to the Hyperion Tower, where her and Fred live.]

[Have a recently ponified human coming to help, since it seemed like her mane felt just like her hair.]

I know a little about coloring--and it doesn't have to be permanent.

Well, yes, I'm hoping it wouldn't be, actually. Although I could probably magic it out even if it were... buuut I'd rather not try that if I can avoid it.
