[Sometime after the initial panic of finding himself in a strange place where books talked at you when you opened them, there were no Homunculi or anyone familiar at all, and... everything ever; much later at night after things have started to sink in, there is a polite sounding voice over the journals after a self conscious throat clearing.]

Good evening! My name is Alphonse Elric and... do any you know Brother? His name is Edward and he's the... [little] ...alchemist with a red coat.

[What more can he really say? This is still so overwhelming and ridiculous.]

...I hope I can meet you all in person soon, talking over... a book seems a bit impersonal for a first meeting. [And then, in case that made anyone think he didn't want to talk now, he hastily added:] But it's nice to meet you anyway.

Actually... I've never been to a castle before, not even Fuhrer King Bradley lives in a castle.

What's your homeworld like, Al?

[He's silent for a moment, just a little surprised to be asked about his 'homeworld' like that was an everyday question.]

I'm from a country called Amestris, I guess it's pretty nice - it's got big cities and little villages, but it's not hard to get around as there's a good network of trains.

Amestris? Is that on earth? [yes he's all the casual about this... heh. well, it has been two years and some odd... months... plus Paris okay]

Where else would it be?

[Other planets than Earth, Abel? What are you talking about?]

A-ah, well! That's the funny thing about living in Paradisa... People can come from all sorts of places you've never heard of! Planets, even dimensions or universes where 'earth' doesn't even exist!

Mm, it is, isn't it? It's a pretty daunting thing to mull over. It makes you feel a little smaller in the grand scheme, huh? --But maybe in a good way! Being awed and humbled.

For example, I've never heard of Amestris -- but I hail from earth, too. So, I guess our 'earths' must be different, Al.
