001 Enter the Alchemist

[Sometime after the initial panic of finding himself in a strange place where books talked at you when you opened them, there were no Homunculi or anyone familiar at all, and... everything ever; much later at night after things have started to sink in, there is a polite sounding voice over the journals after a self conscious throat clearing.]

Good evening! My name is Alphonse Elric and... do any you know Brother? His name is Edward and he's the... [little] ...alchemist with a red coat.

[What more can he really say? This is still so overwhelming and ridiculous.]

...I hope I can meet you all in person soon, talking over... a book seems a bit impersonal for a first meeting. [And then, in case that made anyone think he didn't want to talk now, he hastily added:] But it's nice to meet you anyway.

He's got blond hair and golden eyes, and one of his arms and legs are made of automail. He's got kind of a scary face and frowns a lot, and...

[His voice lowers, as though saying something blasphemous that he thinks he might get struck down for.]

[...He just chuckles, shaking his head even if Kasanoda can't see it.]

No! Automail is a metal prosthetic limb.

Oh, no problem. I'm Kasanoda.

[a pause.]

Have you been told about this place and what it does?

Mm, it's really strange... but I think the strangest thing is talking to everyone through a book and not meeting anyone.

Trust me, that won't be the strangest thing for long. But if you walk around, you're always bound to find people. This place can be pretty crowded.

[Sob. He is just going to walk purposefully around... seeing if he can find people.]

Good. You should be able to go just about anywhere you want. There's even a whole town outside of the castle.

... Yeah, all right, I've got nothing better to do today. Where are you?

[He reads off a random numberplate he happens to be passing by... conveniently near to Kasanoda.]

[And so, he goes out into the hallway, and comes across WHAT THE HELL.]

... Wh... wh... what the...

[He turns at the sound of the voice, and sort of tries to shrink in on himself at the horror on Kasanoda's face.]

Hi... Ritsu.

... Alphonse?

[staring is rude, but... really? you can't just put on a shirt and jeans for a walk around town.]

... You're... taller than I thought.

[He just sighs, slowly getting up again as though afraid he might frighten Kasanoda again once he was to his full height.]

...I didn't mean to scare you.

I wasn't scared! I was just surprised. There are much scarier things here than some guy wearing a suit of armor.
