With a weapon there isn't a whole lot of difference between "protect yourself" and "kill the other guy".

There's plenty there to practice with, though I'd recommend an instructor.

That's the point of learning to fight. You practice so that when it's time... you can hurt the other guy without thinking about it to much.

You'll get used to it.
