[Phoebe's putting the finishing touches on her Yule Log, Christmas music playing in the background. She smiles as she softly dictates]

Smooch-inducing nutcrackers aside I'm sure a lot of people here know about the usual 20th and 21st holiday traditions from Earth by now. I'm curious, though. Do those of you from different places have a holiday around this time of year? Or even a similar holiday during a different time?

My sister left me a house in town. How do you guys feel about putting it to good use with a holiday party? Food, drinks, friends... Nothing fancy, just something to celebrate the season.

We have no such thing in Westeros. Winter is not celebrated, but feared.

Feared? Why?

[songsandstories]

Winter is much harsher where I am from, and it is unpredictable. There are tales of it lasting a generation.

[kungfuwitch]

A generation of winter? [she shudders just thinking about it] I couldn't handle that. I come from a state where it never gets cold enough to snow unless you're in the mountains.

[songsandstories]

Most only last several years, but there have been tales.

[kungfuwitch]

I can't imagine. I mean we have some pretty bad things from our history but... years of winter? Of course... that did kind of happen in my world. It's called the ice age.

[songsandstories]

It comes about every few years.

[kungfuwitch]

Yeeeeeaaaah ours was a few million years ago... Or something like that... I didn't pay much attention in that class.

[songsandstories]

Then you are a child of the summer, endless summer.

[kungfuwitch]

Well... Not endless. Some places in the world are cold all the time. Some have seasons, some hot and some cold.

[songsandstories]

We have that as well. Above the Wall is even colder than the North, and Essos is too south to see snow.

[kungfuwitch]

That's not to dissimilar to us. Further south in our country is warmer while north is colder.

What do you do in the winter? You have to have a lot of things to keep you occupied if it lasts that long.

[songsandstories]

My lord father is the lord of the Vale. I will try and help in any way I can.

[kungfuwitch]

I think that's wonderful. I only really started getting to know my own father a couple of years ago.

[songsandstories]

[She watched her true father be beheaded by a child king. It makes her jaw clench to speak now, trying to remind herself that she is Alayne Stone.]

Did something happen to him?

[kungfuwitch]

We grew up thinking he walked out on us. In reality our grandmother sent him packing because she didn't think a non-magical person could survive and do well raising 3 witches. She raised us herself after our mother died.

[songsandstories]

You are of magic then? [She's good friends with James Potter. He's told her a little of it, and it's certainly not like the stories. But then they never are.]

[kungfuwitch]

I am, yes. I'm a witch. [it's getting easier and easier to say that to people.]

[songsandstories]

You do not sound like the conjurers in old tales, meant to keep children from the forests. Though tales hold little truths of life, I've found. James Potter has told me little of his.

[kungfuwitch]

[She laughs] No, no I'm not like those stories. Trust me, we have more than a few stories like that in my world, too. We fight for good, to destroy the forces of evil.

From what I know about his world his magic is not too dissimilar from mine.

[spongetastic]

[Peter lets her go ahead and decorate. His contribution is hot cocoa]

You know, I do know something that comes around on the twenty-third every December.

[kungfuwitch]

[Phoebe smiles up at him, teasing]

Oh really? I have no idea what you could possibly be referring to.

[spongetastic]

Hm, well, I'm sure you'll find out.

[kungfuwitch]

[She makes a face at him]

I'd say it's something involving a cake, some candles and the fire department.

[such a supportive wife]

Does Paradisa even have a fire department?

[kungfuwitch]

You know? I don't know. Guess I'll just have to stock up on fire extinguishers.

[spongetastic]

Or we can skip on the candles. You know this place: it might take my birthday wish literally.

[kungfuwitch]

Okay. One cake hold the candles. [She smiles] you've got it.

[spongetastic]

Thanks. I think it's already one of the better birthdays I'm going to celebrate.

[kungfuwitch]

I'd certainly hope so. Is there anything in particular you'd like to do?

[spongetastic]

I can't think of anything. Just spending the day with you will be good enough.

[kungfuwitch]

[She smiles. Why so sweet, Peter?] I'll just have to think of something good, then.

[spongetastic]

I'm sure you will.

Friends filter forever

What is it with people lately and social gatherings?

[kungfuwitch]

Not all of us are hermits, you know. Some of us actually enjoy and seek out the company of others.

[whichwayyoulean]

It's when you people expect me to seek out the company of others that gets annoying.

[kungfuwitch]

[Her voice softens.]

I don't expect anything, Once-ler. I'd like it of you'd come but I understand. I'd never want to make you leave your comfort zone if you didn't want to.

[whichwayyoulean]

[Groan. Why do you people have to be so reasonable and GOOD to him all the time? His life would be easier if you all treated him as he believes he deserves to be treated]

I'll think about it, okay?

[kungfuwitch]

That's fair. [she smiles]

I think that would be a lovely idea. I'm more than happy to help decorate as well. It will give me something to do whilst Felix works with his spells.

I could come now. As I said, Felix is working on some spells, so I have some time before I need to check on him and make sure he's eaten something.

Alright. I'll meet you down there and only spend as much time there as you can spare. I wouldn't want to keep you from taking care of Felix.

Believe me, there is no need to worry for that. It might be good for him to miss a meal and wonder where I have been.

Has he really been working that much?

[wishmadeinfire]

It seems that way at times. That, or he is off playing his 'game', of course. He can get easily wrapped up.
