[As wonderful as the holiday season is, with its warmth and cheer, and while even Jane can appreciate the kissing hijinks while at the same time wishing they weren't happening, there's been something nagging at her for a while now. It's only now that, as she sits in her room preparing little things for her friends, does she realize what it is, and she scrambles for her journal to let it out.]

...I miss my Dad.

I mean, well, I've missed him ever since I came here, I never stopped. It just hurts a lot more right now. It's going to be Christmas soon, and I'm not decorating the house with him, or baking with him, or shopping with him, or anything... [Her voice cracks slightly.] Aren't you supposed to be with your loved ones at Christmastime?

[There's a long pause, quiet save for a few deep breaths. It seems like someone is determined not to cry over here. Then, quietly,] I think I need to take a walk. Nutcrackers be damned.

[Feel free to reply to Jane over the journal - she'll take it with her as she wanders the halls. Also feel more than free to run into her and give her a Christmas smooch!]

I don't know. The castle did a pretty good job of that already. It's just the principle of the thing.

Well, I don't live in the castle anymore so my place doesn't have any decorations. All its got is a kotatsu and a bowl of mandarins.

[That voice over the journal hits him hard. Because he knows exactly what she is feeling right now.]

I'm sure you can decorate the room anyway. You know, pick out some of the sort of decorations you know he'd like, and then it'd be like a part of him is still here with you anyway.

[Oh. He'd managed not to think about it too much, what with the planning with Lucrezia and everything, but now....

Emma's been gone for a few months now, but the pangs are still there.]

Yeah. I know how you feel.

[A beat.]

But, we have friends here, right? We can celebrate together. I know it's not exactly the same, but....

...Yes, that's true. I just can't help but think about him. I know time stops when we come here, but I still hope that when I go back, I find him right away.

[A pause.] Oh! Right. Your feast is today, isn't it Henry?

Mm.

I think...that sort of thing would make me sadder in the long run. I feel like I would just keep thinking about him until I couldn't think of anything else.

[Oh? That's a new voice.]

Gosh! I hadn't thought about everyone else...I bet everyone misses their family all the time here.

[The little tidbit of information is helpful! It gets her mind thinking in a new direction.]

Oh? So you moved out then? What's it like, to move out of the castle? And why haven't you decorated? Do you not celebrate Christmas?

[ Oh... there's a fun punch to the feelings John didn't expect. Suddenly thinking about his Dad here at the castle is a lot worse now that he finally knows the man is dead. ]

Yeah... but Paradisa doesn't really seem to care a lot about who people want to see... Sorry, Jane.

I...I know.

It just...doesn't feel right not to be with him.

[Wow this is Dad feel central right now.]

I guess it probably doesn't mean much, but you get used to it after awhile.

[ All the help he can offer here... and it's pretty shitty help. ]

[Evan, for his part, had been doing much the same thing. He was oblivious to the nutcrackers, and really just wanted to get to know the castle better. He'd done much the same thing his first few days at the Jean Grey Academy. He's got his journal in hand as he walks, and both sees Jane's words as they're written on the page, and hears her nearby, so he strolls her direction.]

I miss my Ma and Pa too. I...haven't seen them in a year, since I had to leave for school. It's my first Christmas without them.

...I really miss my parents too.

[Granted he hasn't been separated from them as nearly long as Jane has, but the idea of spending Christmas without them wasn't one he liked to think about.]

Uhm, would you like some help baking?

Yeah, a few months ago. It's nice actually. Almost brings a sense of normalcy back, y'know? What with all the responsibility for yourself you get back.

Ah... well, not really I guess. In Japan Christmas Eve is just a big commercial thing. An excuse for families to eat cake and KFC... a big romantic night for couples... Something to make an episode about on all the children's shows even though we don't do the whole presents on Christmas morning thing.

I haven't had a girlfriend in a long time and I don't really have a family back home either, so I guess it just never crossed my mind to even bother with it here.

Church waffles between saying something and just ignoring her for a long while. Her feelings aren't his damn concern but he also knows what it's like to have someone you love taken away from you.]

It sucks to loose someone... but try to focus on the people you do have.

"Loved ones" and "family" don't have to just be people you're related to.

Hmmm. I know that very well. I just can't help but miss him.

Really? Gee...that's sort of interesting, actually. I've never heard of Christmas being celebrated that way. If you aren't going to decorate or do anything else, why don't you just do something nice for yourself that day?

There should be a "We Miss Our Parents" Club, and we could invite the entire castle to join.
