[The only word to describe Mavis' voice as she starts to speak, reciting from the book she's gotten from the castle, is bittersweet.]

Two lonely bats crashed in the night.
They felt a zing; love at first sight.
They knew right then they would be husband and wife,

[Distracted by thoughts of those left behind, she forgets to thank people for her gifts, but she has not neglected to make sure others got theirs. In addition to her gifts from the meme, Mavis gave each vampire she knows of in the castle the substitute blood the castle has been granting her wishes with. Rose and Dave also have gifts awaiting them. (Dave's is a pin.) All gifts have a note attached simply reading: Love, Mavis.]

[Even though she's good at being blissfully ignorant of many things, Mavis might have noticed the bit of bitterness that gets in; the slight off-ness. But she's being an eighteen year-old girl wrapped up in her own problems at the moment, unfortunately.]

I certainly understand. It's been a dreadfully long time since I've seen many of my loved ones.

If you're sure... This place can be a real bummer, huh?

I believe "bummer" is a bit of an understatement.

Yeah, I guess you're right.

There's good people here, at least.

There are a lot of good people here. And despite the castle's dire sense of humor, it's at least safe.

And... I do like it when it gets interesting! Like when we were in that village.

Yes, that was among the more pleasant excursions it's taken us on.

It was the only one I've had so far... It was cool until those guys attacked.

I believe it was my third, but the most enoyable by far. At least, until the end.

What other places have you been around for?

[fluthlu]

Shortly after my arrival we were whisked away to a small fleet of pirate ships, and ealrier this year it took us to the home of our resident talking ponies.

We have talking ponies here? I didn't know that...

But pirates, wow! Sounds so exciting!

[fluthlu]

Yes, I believe we still have a couple. We used to have practically an entire herd.

And I suppose, in the most basic sense of a word, it was exciting. Headache-inducing, perhaps, fits better.

I'll have to see if I can find them someday.

Awww, that's not cool! What went wrong?

They shouldn't be too difficult to pick out of a crowd.

And I believe that's an answer not easily given in a single paragraph. I do believe there were sea monsters and a navy fleet involved, however.

True. That's very true.

...Is this another one of those "monsters are mean in other worlds" things?

[fluthlu]

[Well damn. Rose hadn't meant to let that slip out, especially after their conversation about Mavis' rather monstrous family.]

I suppose that it would be an example of that. Although, perhaps to them, humans are the evil ones who warrant attacking.

[holyrabies]

I don't know. Maybe that's it, but like... It just all sounds so different, what most people talk about. Most monsters wouldn't hurt a human no matter what, where I'm from. Before they were all too scared, and now they value being accepted too much. Besides, there's all this, like, image stuff.

It is certainly a characteristic of human society, to be frightened of things that are unfamiliar. To my knowledge, no human has documented evidence of an encounter with any true monster, aside from other humans.

[holyrabies]

Well, if it's anything like my world, that's because they're all hiding.

Other humans, though? Humans don't seem so bad to me...

[fluthlu]

Understandably so - I don't blame them a bit. Humans have their good attributes, but can be purely deplorable with very little effort. I often considered myself lucky, during my time on Earth, to live around so few of them.

[holyrabies]

Really? That's too bad... I mean, I don't know. All this different world stuff makes it really confusing, but I feel like where I'm from, it's just nicer.

Um, where were you when you weren't on Earth?
