Filter: AWAY from those pretending to be residents

The people acting strange are not who you think. They're impostors. I'm certain they're planning something and they're sworn to silence on pain of death. Mayhaps someone else will have better luck getting information. The one pretending to be Zelos is especially stupid.

Filter: Those who know Zelos excluding the douchebags excluded from the first filter
When was the last you saw him acting like himself? Does anyone know of him now?

Filter: Zelos Wilder. The REAL one not the stupid asshat who clearly never knew him and stinks too B(
If you can see this at all… Please, please come back. You can't—

You had better be safe, stupid.

[That is not logical proof, child.]

Then it's some other influence of the castle.

[We have a name for those. "Losses".]

Considering that every change of this nature is an influence of the castle--or of another castle--I shall.

[Not impressed with your critical thinking skills.]

Not every change. Remember the nightmares?

That's not a personality shift. There have been many incidents caused by residents or others, but a chance in the fundamental aspect of one's being tends to point to castle magic. Even the virus came from another castle.

Raine

But it does not guarantee it. There are many beings, in my world and others, that can alter a person's personality. Heck, I could do it temporarily, if I was willing to pay the price. We can't immediately assume, "Oh, someone's acting weird. It must be the castle." Such thinking would blind us to other possibilities.

That's understandable, but is it prudent to discount the very high probability of the castle's influence in cases like these?

Perhaps not, but her instinct holds more ground than you might think. I feel Arya is on to something. And a wizard never ignores her feelings, because more often than not they lead to truths.

The girl has reason to believe what she does. She told me she was able to convince one of them to talk. ["Convince" here meaning "forced at knifepoint," but details.]

I'd listen to reason, but she's yet to provide any.

Thus proving nothing. As I said, I'm willing to listen, but so far I've no reason to believe you beyond your own word, which means nothing to me.

[Harsh, yes, but there's no reason to believe anything without proof. Why shouldn't this be some action of the castle's?]
inafadingcrown: (grave and beautiful)

[personal profile] inafadingcrown 2013-01-01 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Arya, you might have resolved this much more simply. Raine, allow me to share what she told me. [And she'll transcribe the first four of these comments for Raine.]

That's much better, thank you. Though I will point out that those on losses will often deny it is so.

[LOOK ALL SHE WANTED WAS SOME REASONING.]

Even so, I still see no reason to assume this isn't the castle's work in some way, as it often is. Their preparations seem to be centered around a "Feast of Fools" to be held tomorrow near, of all places, the stable. If anything is to be learned about their actions, you can be certain this will be important to observe.

I have oft heard them to deny that they are effected, but never to state that they are not themselves. If it is a loss, it is a queer one indeed.

But you are right; regardless of the cause, our course of action seems the same. [A long suffering sigh] If I do not go mad by then, that is. [BEING MARRIED TO ONE OF THESE PEOPLE IS REALLY HARD.]

Indeed.

[Her voice softens a little.] If it's quiet you seek, well, you could always visit one of the outposts for a few hours. It's quite easy to get to them instantly with the teleporters in the basement.

I may consider it, if only for a short time. This has been...trying, to say the least.

[personal profile] ruin_mania 2013-01-01 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
No doubt. It's difficult to tell how many are affected, but this Feast ought to be a good indication.

If we're out of the Insolitus by then. I'm afraid a few of us left on an exploratory trip shortly before all this started.
