The whole hostage thing has me realizing I need to learn more about this place... especially how to deal with the "Dead Zone".

Mind if I ask you some more questions.... like do you know anything about those funky blue crystals?

I'm going to say right away that the Dead Zone is not going to be a good idea for you if you can avoid it at all.

The crystals were gives to us as Christmas presents...oh, two or three eyars ago now. Each one is about as powerful as a set of double-A batteries - you can run a small camera on them, but not anything much bigger. What we did figure out is that you can link them together for a bigger jolt - if you can find enough of them, which isn't exactly easy since there aren't a lot of people from back then who are still here. [York has a few gifted to him by departed residents.] I have two of them linked to Delta at all times for backup power in case we get dumped out there without warning so he doesn't get deleted by accident.

Shit... The person who mentioned them to me didn't say they were so weak.

So, I'm stuck to within a couple mile radius of this place. Great.
Hmm... if something goes in there, will it work again when it comes back out? Or is it ruined permanently?

Couple hours by a vehicle, actually. Over a week if you walk, so it's not that small.

With a lot of things, you can take them out there and bring them back in. I'm not willing to risk that with an AI, though. if they lose power completely, they're deleted.

Now, if you need a safe place to stay that's not the castle, we do have both the hangar and the Danger Room within the powered zone, and you're free to use those as you like.

Danger room... well, that sounds like a perfectly cozy and not at all unsafe place to chill out for a while.

Seriously though, what's up with the mother hen act?

It feels like every damn conversation we have includes you telling me to be careful.

As long as you stay in the apartment outside, it's perfectly safe. And isolated.

Imagine for a minute Tex comes back to the castle and realizes something happened to you when I was around. Can you picture how much ass-kicking I'd get?

Not as much as I'd get.

[As bullshit answers go it's at least somewhat plausible. But it doesn't stop Church from feeling like he's being treated with kid gloves... if York thinks he's incompetent he should just fuckin' say so. It's not like he hasn't heard it before.]

Besides, I wasn't thinking of the Dead Zone for safety reasons. From the bits I've been catching over the journal it seems like that is where most people expect to find answers about this place.
Checking it out isn't going to work very well without a body.

Fair enough. But you're also the noob here until we get someone else, and I've been here the longest. Gotta make sure you know what's up.

Most people don't seem to care about that, which is a damn shame. but I'll tell you what - try talking to a guy named Tony Stark. If anyone can figure out how to keep you powered out there, it'd be him.

Stark huh... [Not excited about sharing his "condition" with other people. But this also isn't the first time York has mentioned him so there must be something there.]

I guess I'll have to look him up.

I'll keep my eyes open for anything else that might help, then, too.
