[ Merlin hadn't really expected to ever be running inane errands for Arthur again (for more reason than one), but he took to it with thrilled enthusiasm at the start. It was familiar, and it was simple, and-

Well, it got old after a few days, actually. And it's particularly old right now. He's attempting to carry a tenuously high stack of books back from the castle's library to Arthur's house (which, Arthur living in a house when there's a castle nearby, how's that for backwards) when he trips in the snow and sends the books and himself sprawling.

He only looks mildly chagrined as he goes to collect the books, some of which have more or less vanished into a snowbank. His journal happens to be one of them, and no, he's not aware it's open. ]

- perfect, now he'll call me an idiot for ruining the pages. Probably doesn't even read them. Don't know if anybody's told you, Arthur, but you aren't exactly busy being a king here. If you really wanted to read, you could go to the library like a normal person instead of just keeping books round the house to make you look intelligent.

[ Then, a bit more distracted and muttered under his breath as he focuses on one of the books: ]

King of Cabbage Heads, maybe.

[ Okay, so he might be more than mildly chagrined. He's also crouched down and testing out drying one of the books with magic, but if anyone sees him, he just looks like he's focusing very hard on a ruined book. ]

[ ... "bro"? He's startled, though that's mostly because of the magic thin. He covers it well, and he looks entirely casual when he turns to reply.

The confused stare when he sees a small dragon, however, he doesn't cover so well. He glances around to see if there's anyone gawking before looking back to the dragon, and it takes him a second to reply. ]

I'm fine. [ In slow, deliberate English, because he's pretty sure that's what this dragon is speaking. Just checking. ]

[It most certainly is, or rather, the language everyone speaks in Paradisa, whatever that might be]

Beeeecause those books look kinda wet.

[ Hang on, why is the snow talking. There's a delay while Merlin follows the logic through on that one, then the noise of him blatantly digging up the journal. Enjoy that obnoxious background noise, Anne.

When he's got the journal and sees his own words transcribed on the page, there's another delay, but this time it's mortified silence. He's said worse to Arthur's face, frankly, but he still hadn't meant for anyone to hear that. Either way, casually ignoring her comment. ]

Do these things usually spy on people?

'These things'? You mean you did not intend to announce the grievous insult of your liege lord for everyone under God's grace to hear?

[ Well. Maybe that'll teach you. ]

[...Oh dear. That didn't look good at all. Will hastily makes his way over to the sight of the spill. He ignores the rant directed at Arthur, mostly because he has not idea what to make of it, and kneels to peer at the fallen books.]

Do you need some help?

[magicus]

[ That's a familiar voice. Merlin glances towards Will, and there's a slight pause as he notes what he actually looks like before he offers a broad grin. ]

Only if you haven't got anything better to do. Though I'm not sure there's any point in delivering them now, half the pages are stuck together.

I have the time. It is several hours still before I am expected anywhere.

[Will frowns and takes a closer look at the books.]

They could be dried out, at the least.

[Excuse her, she can't help the chuckle at his words. Might be laughing at Arthur's expense as well for that matter.]

My, my, I should hope that none of my subjects speak of me in such a way.

[ Wow how many royals are even here, this is getting ridiculous. The exasperation is clear in his voice, though it's tempered well enough to be almost polite. Or not. The words kind of negate the effort. ]

If you act like a cabbage head, chances are they'll call you one. Do any of you actually rule this castle, or does it just like to collect extras?

[ That is... not... what he actually meant to say. At all. He'd probably shut the journal to prevent making it worse, but he's too busy grimacing at his own words to do so just yet. ]

[Presea had noticed Merlin falling but continued walking her own way before changing her mind to help him. Glancing at him as he stares at the ruined book, she tilts her head.]

Is it ruined?

[magicus]

[ He's barely even startled by the interruption - he's gotten used to playing it cool when he's caught doing something he shouldn't be, years of practice. But he still takes a second to catch up to what she's said, then glances back to the book to consider it. ]

As long as they didn't end up in mud they should fine. Mostly. [ Well, the pages might end up a bit wobbly. ]

Is there any way to turn make these things... not? [ Not eavesdrop, mostly. And here he thought you were cool, journal!! ]

[Whoa. While Zelos is oh so very used from hearing that sort of talk from his friends? Someone that's clearly a servant not so much. Servants had to respect their Masters. Even Sebastien who virtually raised him would never dare speak this way towards him. ]

[But once that shock wears off? He proceeds to laugh, mostly at some of the reactions of nobles on this entry. Plus he recognizes the name Arthur from Big Merlin and more importantly- Gwaine]

Man, you must be your lord's favorite subject.

[ Hey, who are you calling clearly a servant. He's already gotten flack from several people at this point, so if he sounds slightly exasperated, that's because he is. ]

Yes, well, he hasn't taken my head off yet. Clearly I'm doing something right.

[ Or the rest of you royals are just sociopaths. ]

[This would be the sound of someone drumming their fingers repeatedly on the table just slightly to the left of them. It's a loud sound, a death march, because he's using it as a momentary outlet of temper.

But he will actually say something useful, in a very flat tone of voice. The one person you probably wish hadn't seen this, just has]

[ Well first he thinks he's going slightly insane, because what the hell is that drumming noise, but then he hears that unmistakable voice and - oh. ]

... Arthur.

[ Just, you know. Play it casual. Maybe he didn't hear all of it. ]

What have you got where you're from? [ He's genuinely curious. He's heard about democracies, and as far as he can tell they sound like a hot mess. ]
