Dictated

[The last week had been difficult with so many new revelations. Eventually Will had decided to distract himself with one of his favorite pastimes. Gently teasing his acquaintances with his favorite reading material. And that is why today you will hear a boy reading aloud into the journals with an air of great solemnity.]

The black graines (that is the seed) to the number of fifteene taken in wine or mead is a speciall remedie for those that are troubled in the night with the disease called the Night Mare, which is as though a heavy burthen were laid upon them and they oppressed therewith, as if they were overcome with their enemies, or overprest with some great weight or burthen, and they are also good against melancholie dreames.

Months. And months longer before that.

[He pauses, and the continues softly.]

I am used to being sent to new places without knowing why. The Light never reveals its plans until a place and a time of its own choosing.

But... I have not heard the voice of the Light for a very long time. The castle is blocking it somehow, I think.

[Bunny's quiet for a moment, taking that in, mulling it over]

I've got the same problem. The fella that gives me my orders hasn't said anything since I got here.

Who is that?

[Will smiles.]

How marvelous. I do not think there is such a person in my world, although I have spoken to the stars many times.

There was a time once, when the world was ruled by constellations. The Golden Age, we called it.

In my world the stars have very little care for the concerns of men. But we, too, had a time that was called Golden. Until the first great Rising of the Dark.

Us too. A trusted soldier was overcome by the darkness he guarded. Became the worst threat the world has known.

Nothing was the same after that. It got better, but the Golden Age was done.

[i>Will is silent for a long moment, remembering a bright-eyed man in a green velvet coat. Until his feelings of jealousy and betrayal had doomed him to his own betrayal. And centuries of suffering as he walked the world.]

Once such a time has fallen, it can never truly come again.

Too right. We hoped maybe it could happen, but everything was too far gone.

We still speak of that time in my world. Even those who know nothing of magic. Though they think it nothing more than a story.

Most of them have forgotten about that time, in my home now. There's not a whole lot of us still alive who were around to see it.

I am sorry. It must be painful. [Will knew the pain of being the only one who remembered, but unlike some of the others he had met here Will knew that it would not always be that way. His kind were not dead, only gone. And he knew that once the term of his duty was complete he would one day join them.]

[It was, on occasion, of course, there were worse things. Things he chose not to dwell on]

It's not all that bad. Better someone remembers it than no one, right?

It is important, I think. That some things be remembered.

It's the only way to stop history repeating. Least try to prevent it.

History is always repeating. Because all times are the same. Yesterday is today is tomorrow and back again to yesterday.

I've seen a lot of history, and trust me, not all of it repeats. [Says he who doesn't pay all that much attention to what adult humans are doing]

[Will considers this.]

Perhaps repeating isn't the right word. For me and my kind, all of history is happening at once. Sometimes an event that happened long ago can be changed by an event happening in the future, as those who live within time would call it.

That...

That's gotta be confusing.

[Will grins.]

I am better at understanding it than I used to be. It's one of those things you can't understand by thinking like a human.

No...I bet thinking like a human wouldn't help you with that. [Brain might explode]

It simply isn't possible to understand it, when all you know is the track.

No, if they haven't experienced it themselves, they struggle with it. [Lord knows he had enough trouble when he first met North]

It is a very different way of thinking.
