Wonderland: Day One

The residents of Paradisa who ventured into the lobby on the 13th would find something new there; a mirror spanning an entire wall. Given recent happenings, who can blame them if they're cautious? Trouble is, this mirror seems to really want to bring people in, because you don't have to get too close before you're through the looking glass.

Once you've gone, you may find that you're not quite yourself.

[Notes/Reminders: Type 1 and Type 2 characters will believe they are Wonderland natives. All characters, including those not entering Wonderland, will be able to use their journals; Wonderland "natives" will think it is a communication device exclusive to Wonderland, although communication between Paradisa and Wonderland through the journals is absolutely possible. You may NPC any number of Tulgey Wood creatures, except for the Jabberwocky.]

[ Wandering in the forest are we? Watch your step, the animals may be harmless (mostly) but they do not take kindly to clumsy stumbling feet. Though this particular one finds lost travelers rather curious.

One can even hear the most contented purr as they walk past a certain empty branch. ]

[righttrack]

[Kurt is, to put it simply, Not Amused by this recent flight of fancy. He'd been hoping the next forced trip would be to a big city, not some crazy forest with mutant bird-objects. At least he made his way out of the crazy maze at last...

He's mumbling about "such nonsense" when the purr reaches his ears. He looks around, expecting a cat-slash-coffee maker or something, but he doesn't see anything.]

That's weird...

[nihilo]

[ The cat is only a spiral of blue-green fur first as she unravels into, well, a cat perched most comfortably on a nearby branch, still purring. ]

I've always thought so too.

[righttrack]

[And Kurt just gasps, staring, because what on Earth else is he supposed to do?

After a moment, though, he does find his voice.]

At least you're not half something else.

[nihilo]

[ She rolls around in the air. ]

Aren't we all? Half something else.

[righttrack]

Um, no? How do you figure that? Because I'm pretty sure I'm all human.

[nihilo]

Human? [ She says the word like something exotic. ] Well, that makes you part everything.

[righttrack]

Part everything? Just from being human? I'm not sure I follow...

[nihilo]

Well, for one you can be a son, a brother and a father. And then you can be a friend too or a lover. That makes five things.

[righttrack]

That's different, though. Those are roles you can take on... It's not the same as the bird that's half stork and half shovel.

[nihilo]

Oh, appearances. They could be all shovel inside, you know.

[schrodingersghost]

[This particular traveler wasn't much of a risk for stumbling feet, if only because he was currently floating his way through the forest. He pauses at the sound of purring.]

Now there's invisible cats?

[nihilo]

[ Oh hi fellow floater. She materializes above him, as a spiral of turquoise fur first as her row of white teeth appear. ]

Vaporizing.

[schrodingersghost]

Huh. That's different. [His ghost sense hadn't gone off.] What are you?

[nihilo]

[ Eventually she forms a cat-shape with too many teeth for her own good. ]

You don't know what I am? That's a pity.

[schrodingersghost]

Not a ghost? That's all I have.

[nihilo]

Are you?

[schrodingersghost]

The glowing wasn't a clue?

[nihilo]

Shouldn't ghosts be invisible rather than more visible?

[schrodingersghost]

What's the point of that? It would be boring to stay invisible all the time.

[nihilo]

Boring, yes. I think it will prove useful in time.

[schrodingersghost]

Why is that?

[nihilo]

There are certain benefits of disappearing, don't you agree?

[Fff, who said anything about lost? Rose is definitely not lost. Seers do not get lost, just... turned around. That's all. She has her needles out and her eyes alert, looking through the dense woods for any sign of an exit. When she hears the purring, she pauses for only a moment.]

... How cliche.

[nihilo]

[ The cat doesn't appear yet, only her voice, all giddy and amused. ]

And here I stayed away from growling.
