[Those out and about may see a gaudily dressed wizard roaming the halls with a stick of chalk in hand, eyes trained on the architecture, and generally muttering to himself. After a moment, he pauses to flip open his journal]

...no, this isn't going to work either. It figures a magic castle would insist on being difficult.

[Felix]

If I agree to join your little wizard's club, I can get access to one of the work rooms, correct?

[He may have a plan for it.]

Quite sure, unless I've somehow caused the architecture to be uncooperative without my knowing it.

What exactly are you trying to do, anyway?

Something terribly ill-advised, if I can find a good place for it. No luck, so far.

Hmm. Let me know if you do find a good spot, I'll come down and watch.

You're just hoping I'll make a mess of it.

Well, if you make a mess, I'll be amused, and if you don't, I'll likely have learned something. Hard to lose, unless you blow us both up - and I do have enough faith you won't do that.

I will likely need a helping hand. I suppose it might as well be you.

In that case, I find myself compelled to accept the offer, as my own room has become unsuitable for the things I'm currently investigating.

There are several workrooms still available for claiming if you'd like one, and we'll all be charmed to have you around, I'm sure.

I've got a few things on the agenda at the moment. Including something that might come in handy should you decide to faint on us again.

That wasn't entirely my fault, you know. The last time something like that happened I was only out for two days, not a whole week. I'm sure it was the castle's doing, or perhaps some consequence of working a significant amount of magic that far from the castle proper.

Well, I'm certainly glad to know you didn't make us drag you back to the castle unconscious on purpose.

Certainly not. And given the spell was at least a success, I should hope it was worth the sacrifice.

And how much of you was in that 'us', Howl?

It was a group effort. If it had just been me, I might have been tempted to leave you there.

But you deserve congratulations for at least accomplishing the task.

[A little deference to Felix theoretically being in charge of this whole thing, even if manners aren't usually his strong suite]

There are only three rooms being actively used to my knowledge, plus the potions laboratory at the end of the hall which I would like to remain unaltered. Signs of their occupancy should be apparent enough, so you may have claim to any of the remaining.

By the way, I have some basic wards set around all of the rooms. Simply for containment purposes. I can remove them if you would rather use your own, but if there's any concern about incompatibility, I'd be happy to adjust them as necessary, with your assistance. All I ask is that safeguards of some type remain in place.

I'll let you know if things need adjusting, though I doubt it will be an issue.

Well, we don't exactly have the best track record, do we? But it's simply a fallback, for the sake of our neighbors.

I hope I get a chance to see what you're working on at some point.

If it works the way I want it to, I doubt I'll be able to keep myself from showing it off. And I don't particularly plan on failing.
