[dictated while she's sitting in the library! she's quiet, though, so as not to disturb the other people ... reading ...]
So, have you guys heard of the flower Amaryllis? It's a gorgeous red flower. But there's a story about how it came about ... it's said that there was a nymph who was in love with a man, who was really attractive and strong and all that. But her love was unrequited, so she asked this oracle for some advice on how to capture his attention. She heard that the one thing he'd like most in the world was a flower that was so unique that it didn't exist yet.
So, going by the oracle's advice, she came to his door every night for a month, and stabbed herself in the heart with a golden arrow. The guy never even answered the door for a whole month, but when he finally did, all the blood she had spilled had turned into a beautiful red flower.
I guess she died? She must have, right?
Well, whatever. It's kind of weird how so many stories say that beautiful things can only come out of tragedy.

Story Tiem!
One can never assume. Anyway... [he clears his throat]
...Echo, of the story, was also a nymph - a wood nymph. She had a particular fancy for chatting, and at one point, she was cursed by the goddess, Juno, who removed her voice, dooming her to only be capable of saying the last words spoken to her.
At some point afterwards, she fell in love with Narcissus, a beautiful, young lad who was loved by very many, but reciprocated none. He loved only himself, and thrived upon praise, envy and attention.
Shortly after, Echo had followed him about, and when he had heard her footsteps, he called out to her. Being that she could only repeat the last of each word he said, she could not communicate her desires effectively. When he prompted her to show herself, she then threw her arms around him. Alarmed, he threw her to the ground and spurned her affections, leaving Echo immeasurably heartbroken. She retreated to the mountains and eventually perished, her voice becoming one with the mountain stone. This is said to be the origin of the echo.
One day, as Narcissus passed a fountain, he glimpsed his own reflection in the water. Not recognizing it as his own, instead mistaking it for a beautiful water nymph, he fell in love with his own reflection. He leaned in to kiss this 'nymph', and being a reflection, it kissed back. Taking it as a sign of reciprocation, he reached out to it. The water displaced, and his vision of beauty was gone.
When the reflection returned, he attempted to reach for it again to no avail. Eventually, he became dejected...heartbroken, and afraid to touch the water, lest his love disappeared. Despite the pleas of the nymphs who loved him to let the reflection be, he sat and gazed at the pool until he eventually wasted away to death, like Echo did, and in his place, the Narcissus flower remained.
...And that's it.

I suppose it's just not feasible to help not being able to return the feelings of another.

Umm ... well, you might not know him, but his name was Apollo. I think he said he was working for some Phoenix guy. Was that right? Something "Wright" ...

Well, I think I can sympathize. I have a person like that, myself.
