sixtieth labyrinth
[Felix walked into Chimera headquarters and smirked to himself. The castle hadn't missed decorating up here, either, and seeing that gave him a flutter of nostalgia, since it was here that he and Ashura had first kissed. Accordingly, it's the first day he's been in what might genuinely be called a good mood. Maybe that holiday 'good cheer' thing really did work.
He settles into a desk in the offices and gets to work.]
The castle certainly works quickly. I should probably be more surprised at it's abilities. Even accepting it as magic, it's...frankly amazing.
I can't help but wonder, for the rest of you, if you don't believe in magic, how do you explain this? And, if I may ask, why? I've found the reasons for not believing in magic says a lot about a particular world.
It's common in my world, but only because a good segment of the population manifests such abilities. And while we cannot exactly snap our fingers and decorate our homes, it's something the rest of the world simply accepts. I suppose it is one of the few things they do agree on.
[Filtered to magic-users and away from First-Gens, their allies, and people without good intentions towards the residents]]
While I'm on the subject, for those of you that do possess such talents and have not yet heard me mention it - my name is Felix Harrowgate and I run a small group hear I call Chimera. I started it almost two years with several goals in mind - to research any and every form of magic we encounter, both ours and that of the castle, with the hopes of reaching a greater understanding of it. We also, occasionally, get together to use our talents to defend the residents when the need arises.
If any or all of that interests you, or if you have more questions about the specific details, feel free to contact me at any time.
[Duke]
If you're feeling better, I'd like to ask you to come up to headquarters and discuss how to implement your wards for the outpost. Given you almost died producing this crystal, I think we'd be amiss to not put it to good use.
And I'm rather hesitant to go experimenting on this thing without talking to you first.
[Thamuris]
Are you free yet? I have something I want to show you.
[Crowley]
Is the game on this year?

Is the game on this year?
[Felix]
... Now?
[Duke]
And yes, now.
[Felix]
[ He's pretty sure he has the hang of it, if he needed to do that again, but... ]
... Very well.
[ Give him a bit and he'll head up to the Chimera room- ]
[action forever]
[action forever!]
But he's trying to figure out if he's supposed to knock or just open the door and stick his head in. Probably the second. ]
Re: [action forever!]
He looks up when the door opens.]
You don't have to sneak in here, you know. You're free to come and go as a member.
no subject
... true enough. [ You didn't redecorate from the last time he was in here, did you? But the way was clear, so he heads on in to stop not that far from Felix. ]
... Do not think I know location of workrooms.
no subject
[And considering the room was round, it was easy enough to find your way there]
no subject
[ Then it should still be to his left.
Single track mind for the moment, Felix, he's going to go find that door and his crystal. ]
no subject
I can't believe the castle decorated in here too. I hope it didn't interfere with the wards...
no subject
Likely depends on how wards are set.
no subject
Here we are.
[Felix pauses to open the door to the workroom where Duke's crystal is waiting]
no subject
[ He doesn't quite understand how the wards would work.
And he's trying to figure out if he can remember just how far in and which turns were made to get to this particular work room while Felix does that. ]
no subject
[He moves inside. The crystal is sitting on a heavy wooden cupboard at the other end of the room. Otherwise there isn't much else in here. Felix fails to notice a pair of nutcrackers flanking the inside of the doorway, however.]
no subject
[ Nutcrackers flanking the door? Duke hasn't noticed them either, because he's noticed where his crystal is and is carefully making sure he doesn't knock his shins or knees against anything on the way to it.
Just picking it up and carefully studying it now - which involved a great deal if him standing still, really. ]
Seems to have worked well...
no subject
So it seems. It's been stable, though I don't suppose I'd know for sure if it wasn't. You mentioned I could maybe have a piece to test some things with, but I thought it best you show me how best to do that. I'd rather not tempt fate with solid magic again.
no subject
Because after he dusts the surface off, and finds a nice edge that feels like it might crack cleanly, he's going to thunk it nice and firmly on the edge of the table.
Yeah. You get a piece of the crystal this way. ]
no subject
...
Well if I'd known hitting it was your solution.
no subject
It is not inscribed with any formula, so it gives no reaction to damage. Those inscribed and then placed within blastia bodies - like what I would do with a barrier - then damage causes various, oft explosive, results.
[ Duke starts sorting out the various pieces now. Thumb-sized pieces get kept in one pile, a hand sized chunk sits with a second, and a small collection of fragments between are gathered up and offered to Felix. ]
I could apply a variety of formula if you wish; barrier, water, fire, light.
no subject
What would that do?
no subject
Would give an idea of how they change when set to use. [ And this is with leaving out hoplon, which he didn't intend to work with anyway, and Bodhi - speaking of bodhi, he focuses on Felix - or his general area - again. ]
... There is nothing against attempting to teach others some forms of magic, is there? [ Because he has people interested in healing. ]
no subject
...hmmm? No, not specifically. I'd recommend caution outside of Chimera members with certain magic but, ah...what was it you wanted to teach? [Because...unless they're from the same world...]
no subject
Healing. One works in the clinic, another has magic but no knowledge of healing. Third is uncertain if would be able to work magic. [ And that sounds quite a bit like chopping an arm and Duke would like to try to see if it would work. ]
Uncertain if mentioned, but magic style is similar to math. Own world needed a bodhi blastia and study and magic was available. Can likely restrict bodhi blastia's abilities into healing and healing alone...

... It is how it worked in own world, with kritya, humans... dogs. [ He's fairly sure that it will work with the races represented in Paradisa if it works on his world's 'elves', humans, and dogs. ] If it does not, can attempt to teach in ways their magic works - or perhaps just break it down so that they can replicate effects.
... I would have no interest in teaching those who already have methods of offense at their hands offensive casting.
