Let me get this straight: once your adult humans get too old to be useful, you just put them in a communal hive, force them into embarrassing but basically harmless shenanigans for a cheap laugh or two, and let them stay there to die? Is that really what humans do?

[ Priorities: Sollux has them. ]

Just the ones whose kids are useless deadbeats.

I-D-K, they live by themselves, or move in with their kids or something. It's not like there's some rule about what you have to do with old people.
delincuente: (what is this bullshit)

[personal profile] delincuente 2013-03-05 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh man, she'd almost forgotten about culling.]

Dude, no! I mean, there are people who do that, but it's not like legal or anything.
delincuente: (peace out fuckass)

[personal profile] delincuente 2013-03-05 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. On Earth that's called "murder".

[Or euthanization, but she's not about to have that conversation with a troll.]

Hey, just checking! I mean, you guys sleep in goo. There's bound to be some culture shock.

[Now she's just picking at him.]
delincuente: (not listening to you rn)

[personal profile] delincuente 2013-03-19 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[She raises an eyebrow at the journal.]

... Okay, that's new. Do you mean, like, literally "kill"?
thatrabbitsdynamite: (Shadow)

[personal profile] thatrabbitsdynamite 2013-03-05 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of the time, yeah. Humans haven't always got the whole 'taking care of each other' thing mastered.
thatrabbitsdynamite: (The sack was a great idea)

[personal profile] thatrabbitsdynamite 2013-03-07 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[A chuckle] You sound very sure of that, mate.

You'd be surprised, at what humans are good at.
originalcopy: (look up)

[personal profile] originalcopy 2013-03-05 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well by the time they get that old, they're too tough and stringy to eat.

And everyone enjoys a good laugh.
originalcopy: (smile)

[personal profile] originalcopy 2013-03-07 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the old don't enjoy it... the young do.

We're just lucky that none of the relatives showed up to visit and poke us with sharpened sticks.
originalcopy: (smile)

[personal profile] originalcopy 2013-03-15 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh sure, two things young humans love to do is poke things with sticks and throw rocks at things.

If it's old and infirm or you're not sure it's alive... you poke it with a stick.

If it's dangerous or will get in trouble if you're caught... you throw a rock at it.

Not everyone does that! I am pretty sure my Nanna lived with my dad in our house until she died.

It's not weird to us! The part about knowing our grandparents. I guess the nursing homes can be kind of weird though.

You guys seem pretty weird to me, actually.
kid_apocalypse: (A rare smile)

[personal profile] kid_apocalypse 2013-03-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes. But sometimes they still try to work and be useful. My Ma and Pa were both really old, and they lived at home with me until I left.
kid_apocalypse: (Charging up)

[personal profile] kid_apocalypse 2013-03-07 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I guess? I'm just speaking from my own experience. Rest Homes and Assisted Living places are pretty common on earth, but only when a person gets too old to take care of themselves.

[personal profile] kid_apocalypse 2013-03-07 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
That's what Aradia was saying too. I can't even imagine growing up someplace like that. What did you guys have instead of parents?

A lusus...

[Please give him a moment while Evan's education kicks in.]

Like lusus naturae? You're raised by a monster? That's kinda cool!
kid_apocalypse: (Lonely)

[personal profile] kid_apocalypse 2013-03-18 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh...I'm sorry, I didn't know. I'm sorry to hear that. I still think it'd be cool to be raised by a monster.
legacydeck: (intrigued)

[personal profile] legacydeck 2013-03-06 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
It depends on the culture - in some, it would be deeply shameful to not take care of your aging relatives yourself, as they provided for you in the past.
legacydeck: (intrigued)

[personal profile] legacydeck 2013-03-08 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Utterly unfazed by you weirdo trolls~]

As I said, a cultural thing. In others, you'd be looked down on as being unable to afford to pay someone else to care for them.

Where were you during all that, anyway? I don't know if I saw you. [ALTHOUGH THAT MIGHT BE FOR THE BEST given how Old Her was acting.]

so what do trolls do with old people
kill them
or do they use them as weapons
