Track 1: a new beginning
[The sound of a motorcycle engine is recorded for a while, then gradually purrs to a stop.
A voice speaks, with a distinct accent and a fairly incredulous tone:]
Riding with the wind often takes me to new places, but I hadn't intended to go quite this far out of the city. [Looking around at passing townsfolk for someone who looks likely to be helpful, but no one seems to be making eye contact.] Perhaps some pretty Fraulein will stop and help me with directions back to the city of angels? I seem to have lost my way as my mind and wheels wandered.
((ooc: Open if you're in the City Royale (he's riding a motorcycle the same color as his coat), and his open journal has showed up in his pocket to record the whole encounter.))

I'm from San Francisco, myself. In terms of this place that makes us neighbors. I'm afraid that we're nowhere near California. Or Earth for that matter. This is Paradisa. It's going to sound pretty unbelievable but it snatches people up from all different times and places and plops us all down here. We can't leave until it sends us home.

...Did Herr Wright put you up to this? [It seemed like the sort of revenge Phoenix Wright would take: an ultimately harmless prank designed to make him feel foolish and nothing more.
But he couldn't very well have made Klavier get lost, or predicted that he'd be out wandering. And this set is too elaborate for someone of his means.] ...Nein, that's a foolish question. But fraulein, what you say is clearly impossible.

I'm not joking with you. I'm from San Francisco in the year [she has to stop and think for a moment] 2005. There are people here from all different places and times. There are people here who aren't even human.

[It's 2026 when he comes from. 2005...he was only a baby then.
He stares at her. He doesn't have Herr Forehead's talent for spotting lies in the tiniest twitch, but experience pulling the truth out of witnesses on the stand has left him with a more mundane level of skill, and he doesn't see any sign that she's telling him anything besides the truth as she knows it.
It's just that it's crazy, and impossible.
He looks around again. There's absolutely no sign of Los Angeles anywhere nearby. The surrounding technology level definitely does not fit 2026. There appears to be a castle in the distance.]
...I don't understand.

I know, it's really confusing. Everyone always is when they first get here. The easiest explanation is that it's magic.
no subject
I've seen some great wonders of the stage in my time, but never have I seen a magician make an entire world disappear.
...I...I have things to do at home. [He's aware that he sounds whiny, but dammit, this is not okay on a number of levels.] I can't just take a vacation, not right now.
[Prosecutor Gavin will be missed at work. The few remaining paparazzi hangers-on will be speculating about the Gavinners' lead singer suddenly vanishing undercover.
...As far as friends knocking on his door wondering what's happened to Klavier...that, he's not so sure of.]

[She stays calm, smiling patiently at the confused man. It may have been almost two years since she arrived but she remembers that feeling of panic and confusion.]
no subject
[Calm yourself, Klavier. There is a pretty lady here, do not freak out in front of her. He takes a deep breath and settles back down.]
...My apologies, fraulein. It seems I've been taken a bit off-guard. [The situation is still impossible, he doesn't really believe it yet, but...he has to deal with reality as it's presented to him. Evidence is what matters when it comes to finding the truth...even when the evidence makes no sense at first.] If you could provide me with more details, I would consider myself indebted to you.
no subject
I understand completely. I remember how confused I was when I first got here, too. I'd be more than happy to give you all the information you'd like.
[a pause]
Would you like to continue the conversation here? Or would you like to go sit somewhere more comfortable?

[He looks down at his motorcycle, and then around at the street, realizing that none of the places nearby have parking designed for motor vehicles...which only drives home harder the point that he is really, really not in California anymore.]
Though I'm not sure what I'll do with my hog. She'll be all right if I just keep an eye on her, ja?

There's a nice cafe just around the corner. [she points] It's not far at all.

Almost two years, actually. Although I can still hardly believe that, myself.

[They're out front of the cafe now, so Klavier will just lean his bike against a wall, then pull a chair out from one of the tables for Phoebe. Ever the gentleman.]
.
{She smiles. What a gentleman. So rare these days. She nods and sits]
Thank you.
