 I've been wondering something recently.  Are there any other kids here who like mysteries? I'm wondering, because at home there was a group of us who went around investigating mysteries. We called ourselves the detective boys.

A long time ago there was a group of kids in the castle who did something similar.  But I think I'm the only one left from that time. I was thinking it might be fun to try something like that again.

[Not fun.  Not really.  Really, he'd never been given much of a choice about joining the detective club at home.  And it had forced him into more than one annoying situation.  But here...  Conan needed to spend more time with the children of the castle.  

If one wishes to hide a tree one must go to a forest, after all.]

All kinds of them! The ones in books like Sherlock Holmes are my favorite.

Sherlock Holmes? Of course! Who hasn't?

[For most five-year olds, Holmes would be above their reading level. But not Dairine.

She had found a collection of his stories hidden in one of the bookshelves. It only had a handful of cases, but it was enough to get the jist of it. ]

[Aren't all five-year-olds at that reading level? Shinichi had already read the entire series by that age and started to put serious effort into learning English so he could read them in the original language.]

That's a start! The only way to learn how to solve mysteries is experience.
