[Idly dictated into the journal,]

It never ceases to amaze me with what people get to write, and what gets made into books. Some things just seem downright treasonous, but they still get bound, and bought, and read by lots of people.

I'm a little jealous to be frank. At home it could be pretty tough to get hold of books and things. Some of my friends couldn't even read so having books would have been moot.

[Rin is in the library today, which is not very surprising: the library is a good place to try and find her. Tad the Arcanine is hanging around lolling under tables and in front of chairs as she reads. Just now, she seems to be slipping a book into her carryall: the curious might get enough of a glimpse to see that she's making off with The Anarchist's Cookbook.

And rather underestimated at least by some, I think. If you have people writing whatever they want and getting books made and books going around everywhere... that's just a lot of information moving.

Quite true. There were for8idden topics 8ack on my home planet to keep such information from passing hands, though that never did quite stop word from getting those who sought it.
It sounds as though it was similar for your world?

Well... yeah. Um, my country is kind of closed right now, to all kinds of information and Western influences. We're on an island, you see? Actually a bunch of islands.

Though as I recall, last time we spoke, you could not remem8er your old home. I take it this has changed somewhat recently?

Yeah, that's right... I was on a loss, for quite a while actually. Back to normal now though! Ahaha...

It is good to hear that your memories are in tact, though these added losses I hear of are rather trou8ling.
There often seems to 8e no rhyme or reason 8ehind them.

Basically, I would consider them all to be done generally for the castle's amusement to cause a stir-up amongst the residents and possibly those who know them depending on the loss. I take it you haven't had one yet?

Yes - I've encountered nothing other than my original loss thus far. Simply luck on my part, I suppose.
Though I must say I find it odd that every8ody here speaks of the castle as though it is sentient.

If you're here long enough, I bet you'll end up on a silly loss of your own at some point. I've gone months without being on one, I guess - but how long have you been here anyhow?

Anyway, the castle being sentient just makes sense to me, to be honest. It personalizes our losses and its games with us too well for me to think it could be otherwise. Unless, I guess, you want to argue that there's a force beyond the castle, letting us think that it's the castle at work.

I admit I am still not terri8ly used to the human system of keeping time, 8ut it has 8een... roughly two months? Perhaps a little longer.

I suppose this is true - the things that happen here are certainly not without purpose. I am simply unused to the mapping human qualities onto a 8uilding.

Mm. I don't know, who says the castle is just a building? It might be like a snail shell, I figure, grown out of some other creature. Anyway, this building is a strange one too. It could be quite alive, somehow, and just appear not to be.

Very true. And to 8e truthful, a living 8uilding would certainly not 8e among the most 8izarre things I have seen since arriving here.

Exactly. You know, people seem to find it outlandish when I suggest this place should have no trouble writing in the journals if it wanted. But it's brought us here from a bajillion different worlds, it's taken our losses, removing things from our actual minds for some, it creates things and grants wishes on a regular basis, and it might or might not control the whole journal system anyway. Do you think it's really that farfetched to believe it could write if it wanted?

Though surely it would have done so 8y now, if it could.
Had I kidnapped such a diverse group of people, I hardly think I would 8e capa8le of keeping my lips sealed for such a long period of time.

Well, it's not exactly talkative, but I'm pretty sure it's actually written in here in the past. Like... for the thousandth day...? There's an entry with that written in it and I don't think a resident made it...

That certainly does lend w8 to the theory of the castle 8eing alive.

I think it was the castle at least. And I feel sure it's alive. This building might be its real self or not but I'm positive it's alive.

Why don't I try to find that post for you?

I would certainly 8e interested in laying eyes on it, if you can find it.
