EXPEDITION: DEPARTURE

[Outside and he's eager, bouncing on on the balls of his feet. His backpack is on the floor just by him and there's nervous energy in this Doctor today. Why? He's out and wants to get going. Granted, things would be better if the old girl were going too. A look back at the castle and the TARDIS he's leaving behind, he's more than regretful at that.

However, here he is and here he unfolds his panama. Someone should bother him, for sure.]

First time out?

[Danny is only slightly better at concealing his excitement. He's barely keeping his feet from leaving the ground.]

[Doctor smiles.] Hello. Yes. Although, technically no. But yes. [His smile turns abashed.] Not that obvious, is it? What about you, looking forward to a reccy?

I have no idea what a reccy is, but yes. [Danny grins wryly.

I went on the last one, but then I got knocked out and spent half the trip unconscious. So I'm kind of hoping to make it all the way through this time.

Ah, reconnaissance. That's what it's all about after all. To see what came down.

...Yes. Let's hope that. For you and everyone else.

To see what we haven't seen yet, right? [He grins.] Like exploring, in a way/

Yes! Getting the lay of the land, seeing what's out there, finding new things, meeting new people... Excitement that gets the hearts pumping, running away from danger...

Actually, let's not hope for that latter either.

Yeah, flying away from danger is so much better.

[He freezes and moans.]

...Could you forget I just said that?

[That would be a no.] ...You can fly?

[He breaks out into a grin.} That's actually quite marvellous.

David! Hello, it's good to see you! [He's very pleased to see him. The Doctor puts his hat on his head, ready for an outside adventure. With a grin, ]

I thought I'd see you all off. [A beat and then a chuckle.] Yes. Wild horses wouldn't stop me.

Well, at least I'm guaranteed some pleasant company.

I figured that I might as well explore. There's no powers I have to stop me, so, why not?

Ah, I see. There are many here with abilities special to them. I'm still learning about that, and the Dead Zone also. I'm very interested in seeing it for myself.

You sound like an explorer.

Well, yes. I suppose I am at that. I've been to many places, travelling around, seeing the sights... Occasionally getting into a scrape or two as well...

There's nothing like travel, but best of all is sharing that experience, showing someone something they had never thought to ever to be possible, such beauty that the known universe can share.

[He stops, slightly abashed at himself. With humour, ] Can we leave, yet?

What about yourself, David? Do you travel? I recall your room and books, you have an interest in the Far East?

[A laugh there. 'Travelling around, seeing the sights and getting into scrapes.' That sounds familiar.]

We've all got to have something to do, Doctor. If you enjoy it, it's a bonus.

[And to the other question:]

I'm an Oriental Studies professor from a university in Maine. You could say my interest moves to a bit of an obsession.

[Martel walks over with her chocobo and smiles at him.] Hello, Doctor! Glad to see you along.

[He looks up at the beast she has with her. It's a moment for him to place her voice.] Martel? Hello. It's good to see you. That is a fine animal you have there. What is it?

Yes, I'm Martel. And this is a chocobo. It's not from Aselia, though. It's from a friend's world. [The chocobo made a soft 'Wark!' noise at the Doctor.]

[He grins at the sound from the Chocobo and then back at Martel.] A very fine and friendly animal indeed. You have a good freind there to allow you use of... does the Chocobo have a name?

How are you doing in yourself? Looking forward to going?

...Ah, he went home. [She sighs, and reaches up to the necklace where she had put is dog tag, before letting her hand drop, and smiling.] He taught me how to ride them when he was here, though. And let me name him. His name is Feathers.

And yes, I am looking forward to going. I love to travel.

I'm sorry to hear that. Feathers is a very good name.

Then we have something in common, the travel. Are Chocobos difficult to ride? I saw horses in the stables, although I imagine it to be a little different from that.

I've actually never ridden a horse before, so I couldn't tell you. But I would assume they're similar.

Hello, Doctor. [ she pauses, before clarifying, in case he doesn't recognize her voice from the journal ] I'm Ino.

[He looks up and around. Hello there, that's a new face. The voice is familiar although the talk was brief.] Ino. Of course! Wonderful to meet you, how are you? Looking forward to the trip?
