I don't let myself get stale. Not around this place.

No, of course not, but it is good to have different opponents, yes, that use different styles. Sparring against those that are similar or familiar produces 'staleness' too.

Uh, yeah. I'm aware of that. Thing is, my style's primarily lethal, and if I hold myself back, I'm not getting a good practice in. I prefer to fight against simulated opponents so I don't hurt anybody.

Simulated...? That means false, yes? Generated usually by a machine?

Yeah, exactly. With a couple hundred years of different techniques to battle against programmed in.

How interesting. I have never had much interaction with the higher technologies. Truthfully, I barely understand the things in the kitchen half the time.

Yeah. [York glances over at the poor, abused microwave.] And this stuff is designed to be user-friendly.

Well, it is, once you learn it. But I thought it some sort of strange magic when I first came. I think you might have explained it to me, actually.

Oh, I guess that's possible. It's really not that hard to pick up, once you have a basic idea.

True, though it is still amazing, even to me. I do not understand how a box with light warms things.

[encryptedlock]

It's not just light. The principles are pretty low-level stuff, but think of it this way. You know how a fire that burns really low barely lets out any light at all, but you can still feel the heat? That's the same kind of heat a microwave uses.

Hmm... I suppose that makes some sense. I shall just believe you and know that the machine works.

Well. Or you could check out Elementary Physics, Volume 1 from the library. Explains it all.

I suppose I could, but at the same time that removes the wonder of it. But I shall keep it in mind once we return.

Do you know, I thought of you a bit ago. I was bringing in the flowers for the room and I remember, back when I was first here, you helped me bring quiet a few back from the town then.

Yeah, I remember that. You didn't know there was a flower shop in town.

[York smiles, but a little sadly. He hasn't had a reason to look at flowers for ages now.]

Yes, that's right. You showed me and I ended up bringing back so many I might have started my own forest of them...

Any of them still around?

No, they did not make it through that odd change about a year or so ago. I have new ones now, though. If you like, you should stop by and see them. I even put some out in the gardens.
