EXPEDITION: DEPARTURE

[ To Terre Haute we go! Hope you've packed your things, travelers, because it's going to be a long trek there. Feel free to mingle about in the lobby with everyone else waiting to get going, or grab a bite to eat! After all, it might be awhile before you see fresh food again … ]

[ooc: LOBBY | KITCHEN | OUTSIDE ! Feel free to add your own sections!]

Every hound needs to go out on a hunt. It is in their nature, is it not, boy?

[ He grinned, rubbing his shoulders and neck. He missed the hounds, at times, the same as he missed the horses. He had grown up with those things, good memories of his childhood. ]

[Gladstone just continues panting eagerly, looking back and forth between them.]

His first, incidentally. I can sympathize for the need for something novel. Makes this as well timed as any.

True enough. He could be useful if we need to track down fresher food on the journey. Hounds are always useful on a hunt.

I assume that's why the castle thought he'd be an appropriate gift. Less for the hunting, more for the tracking.

An important part of the hunt in and of itself. Though I doubt you are one for the kill, are you?

[ He worked down to rub the dog's sides, grinning and enjoying himself. It had been a long time since he had been around a hound, when he thought about it, and he rather missed it. The dogs and the horses had really been the only things at home not to judge him - well, them and his sister. ]

[Sherlock watches. He doesn't neglect Gladstone, not in any sense, but John always thought of the mindless affection first. The dog's clearly basking in it.]

Works in my benefit, honestly. Keeps him from getting any more distracted than he's prone to already.

[ He laughed. ]

I am sure he will shape up when he is put to proper work.

[Sherlock looks down at him.]

He'd better.

[Gladstone continues to look deliriously happy.]

[ He rose back up from his kneeling position and chuckled. ]

Have some faith in your hound, Sherlock. I am sure he is up to the task, and if not it will be a good teaching run for him.

The point is to teach him. I'm not going to have faith in him for something he's never done before.

You have enough faith to bother teaching him.

It's easy to have faith in a dog to try, that doesn't mean he's guaranteed to be any good at it.

No, there is not, but doesn't teaching him on some level mean you have faith he can?

[personal profile] workaphilic 2013-04-29 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
It means I have faith in myself to teach.

I feel like this is a re-hash of our last conversation.

[ He shook his head. How lonely were you, Sherlock, how scared of others, that you couldn't even have faith in a dog? Always yourself? Or was it selfishness? You're a hard man to read. ]

workaphilic: (the red-headed league;)

[He rolls his eyes.]

Think what you want. I don't expect my dog to go above and beyond, I expect him to do exactly what he's been trained to do. Anything more would be unreasonable.

As you say, Sherlock.

[ Arguing with you was sometimes not worth it, no matter how cynical he found you. ]
