[She sounds pretty worried, with some of the things she's been hearing over the journal.]

Rise sounds a lot more chipper on this filter. Even if part of it is just an act covering up her concern for all her friends in danger right now.]

So, I don't know who knows this already, but Conan-kun turns eight on May 4th!

I think he could really use some cheering up, don't you? So we're gonna have a Mystery Surprise Birthay Party for him!

[She says it as if there are others in on this already.]

I'm still thinking of ideas, so I'll need some help from Conan-kun's friends. And if anyone can help write riddles and clues to get him to the party, that'd be great!

[As much as the point of this party is to get Conan to enjoy being a kid for once, she doesn't want to just write stupid kiddie riddles when he's so proud of his detective skills.]

I hope all the other kids in the castle will come too!

You don't have to bring presents, but if anyone wants to suggest something Conan-kun might like, maybe we can wish some things for him?

[And that's all her ideas so far! Now to wait and see if anyone responds.

Aside from the small twinge of wondering if Conan would make it back safely by his birthday, talking about this has really taken her mind off of all the craziness going on in this world lately.]

Oh yeah, Conan-kun. I talked to him once. Anyway, I'm up for a birthday party for him! But I'm not really good at coming up with a mystery... Finding missing people inside the TV is all I can think of.

[That gets a giggle out of Rise. Funny how she and Chie helped solve a mystery even the police couldn't solve, and neither of them would be any good at coming up with a mystery to get an eight-year-old to his own birthday party.]

You should've seen his face when I told him that story! I mean, he lives in a magic castle! You'd think he could believe something like that, right?

He sounded ready to believe it when I talked to him through the journal once. Maybe it's something you said?

[It's more likely that he was just humoring Chie, but actually saying that would sound rude. Plus, she still feels kinda guilty about not really being there for Chie after Yukiko went back home...]

Yup. He's a great kid- smart, too. I want to be his eccentric mentor, but we're not quite close enough for that yet.

Yeah, he's a little too smart for his age. Reminds me of someone I know back home...

[Except Naoto's twice his age and still not as serious.]

I'm kinda hoping the party'll help him have some fun, y'know?

[Rise already likes this girl. It was good to hear everyone on the expedition was okay, too... but she's in "focus on Conan's birthday" mode now that the girl mentioned it.]

Yep! He's about your age, I think. Hard to tell with the size difference.

[Rise giggles at that. It's almost hard to believe Sugar is older than Conan, but that's more because he acts all mature whenever he's talking about mysteries. It's probably all an act... like how Naoto tried to act all cool and masculine to keep people from discriminating against her as a "kid". And a girl, in her case...

Maybe he'd act more like a kid with other kids around, though? At least, that's the plan.]
